wait... how? I don't know anything about mid 50s LPs. How do you know what the serial number is if it's been removed?

Re: I'm back...
Jesus. I hadn't seen your update that it's a real '56 until this post. Absolutely a once in a lifetime find. I was already shocked from looking at 70s 56 LPC reissue values.
I agree with stripping it back to just a bridge pickup, but I'd probably do that to a 59 too if the solder joints weren't original. I would of course then be hunted for sport by Bonamassa.

JFC that’s beautiful and amazing.
Time to rip the neck pickup out of it.

Awesome score, Johnny. Welcome back! I was genuinely hoping, that you'd return someday.
I wouldn’t know what to do with a guitar like that. Probably just stare at it all day.

Re: I'm back...
Sorry to disappoint y'all but I think I'm actually going to be sensible and leave all that in. Obviously the main mod I need to do is to install one of these:
I don't know much either, but the guys here in the UK that deal with this sort of level of guitar (and more, like 59 bursts etc) have a guy that has the correct stamps apparently and a method for getting it back. That, and the fact it'll cost a few hundred pounds, is all I know so far. They said they just pick a random number that they know hasn't been registered against another '56 (be it a Junior, LPC, etc). There was something like 6500 solidbody guitars made by Gibson that year, of which only 459 were this model so I guess they just set the correct format (6 ****) and stamp it on after prepping/painting the patch.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 2:41 pmwait... how? It's a world I don't usually exist in, so I am unsure.
Thanks! And, no, at the moment I'm still deciding what to do. I'd had a weird turnaround in my brain to actually avoid overly valuable vintage guitars from now on for fear of taking them out to gig with so this coming into my possession has proved quite the quandary. It's a lot of money to be sat on.
My wife, initially, was openly spending the money - for good reason - but has actually, with no prompting, been actively encouraging me to keep it. Although she said she's going to be nervous around it

Re: I'm back...
Going on a tangent, prompted by your comment…
I generally don’t get much involved in the “Misc Discussions” section because I find a lot of the threads make me a bit emotional in one way or the other. I know for a lot of folks that’s the area they bond with others the most, but I’ve found i’m happier when I generally stick to the guitar stuff.
(And ironically this is the kind of comment that could normally be found in the Misc Discussions section …ha!)
Anyway, nice to see you back. I reckon the overall number of daily forum posts was measurably down during your absence.

Re: I'm back...
Thank you. I was told it was quiet-ish since a load of us left
Hahaha. I highly doubt that, but the guy I bought it from played with the original (Irish) Skid Row and him, my drummers father Jody Pollard, and Phil Lynott grew up in the same area of Dublin and gigged extensively together in the 70s. He showed me pictures (always nice to see) because "you young c*nts never believe this sort of thing"
