If the neck pickup is sounding really muddy, play around with the blend pot.
It’s gorgeous. Good score, J!

Good advice. 330/360 controls are a bit fiddly and odd and take a bit of getting used to. The only guitar I dial in and then never really fuck with.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 3:08 pmIf the neck pickup is sounding really muddy, play around with the blend pot.

Congrats - it’s lovely. Is that a Rick branded case or some aftermarket thing fitted for 360s? My case is like a Fender with a Rickenbacker badge. The latches are fiddly and annoying.

I've been messing around a little with that and I can see it coming in handy. It's odd that it's so muddy though, almost like a JM rhythm circuit but boomier. I can't see me using it all that much.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 3:08 pmIf the neck pickup is sounding really muddy, play around with the blend pot.

Yeah, it's the stock Rickenbacker one. It's a bit like a Hiscox but with better hardware and a 100% fit. It is quite heavy thoughenricosonic wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 4:45 pmGood advice. 330/360 controls are a bit fiddly and odd and take a bit of getting used to. The black body with the white binding on the back reminds me of a pint of Guinness
...which happens to be my favourite pint. So that's nice maybe I'll get a little harp sticker for the pickguard
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Re: No, I don't like The Beatles...
I'm tempted to buy a blank pickguard and build a simplified system...Master volume, blend and a switch, with a couple of those big early Ric cooker knobs. I'm not a fan of overly complicated control systems (I like how they look, but not in use). I'm a man of simple requirements and don't like faffing about with loads of knobs and switches.
I've found someone who can provide me with the bits I need but it'll have to wait until I've a) got some more spare cash and b) I've given it a proper pain-free run for its money.

Re: No, I don't like The Beatles...
Came here to tell you there's one for sale in the UK on Reverb, but I guess it sold in the last couple of weeks. Much as I like those ones the plainer Jetglo 330 looks better to me - probably due to the Weller/Marr association. I'm on my third 330 now (yes, a JG one). My 360WB (12-string) is on its way out the door at the moment, so hopefully I'll be down to just the one soon.JSett wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 11:34 pmYeah, that's the beast I was initially looking for. This is arguably the most beautiful guitar I own. Still… crushed in the March Madness contest.
As luck would have it I was playing my 330 through my old Selmer amp the other day and realised (blend knob aside) I couldn't make head nor tail of which knob does what in conjunction with the selector switch. I'm starting to wonder if this 330 has been taken apart and put back together back-to-front or something. That said, it's most likely a case of user error, so if anyone can point me at a handy diagram of which knob is which I'd be eternally grateful.
By the way, Johnny, lovely guitar you got there. If I ever buy a 360 it'll be Montezuma or Autumnglo, but I can't deny the black and white one looks pretty nice too. One word of advice: handle that case with care - there's a good reason Rickysounds sell these kits.

Interesting solution, but makes sense.jimboyogi wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 1:42 amhttp://www.rickenbacker.com/forum/viewt ... f=4&t=3164
An option re the boomy neck pickup
Managed another 20mins on it today before my bad back kicked me. It's 100% like no other guitar I've ever played, definitely it's own 'thing'. There's a few idiocyncricies to get used to. The fretboard and strings are miles off the body, akin to old archtops really.
I've screwed the neck pickup down as FAR as possible and it's still insanely louder than the bridge one. I'll run the multimeter across them at some point and see if it's just a much hotter wind and, if it is, I might just swap them around and see if that balances things out a touch.
The blend knob, what an odd little thing...seems to put the pickups out-of-phase when you roll the neck pickup gradually out, really honky and thin sound. Not my Jam (pun intended). If it's still looking good as a keeper in a few weeks I'll definitely buy a blank pickguard and rewire it to a simpler setup.

Re: No, I don't like The Beatles...
Great that you're enjoying it. I think they are in the same neighborhood as Jazzmasters and Jaguars, but with some fundamental differences in DNA (construction obviously). I will admit that I keep buying Jazzmasters, but I then play my 330 and put the Jazzmaster up for sale. The Rickenbacker has this nice 3D thing about it that sits so well.
I tend to use either both pickups or the bridge (rarely the neck alone). A fun way to get familiar with the fifth knob is to set the neck tone fairly dark and then blend it in, which gives a nice woody / hifi jazz sound.
Among the quirks: knob layout. I have no idea why the two tone knobs are on top (easy access!), unlike pretty much every guitar out there. My Rickenbacker tech (who used to be their production manager or similar) moved them to be more standard and also changed the blend knob to a cap to go from modern to vintage, which is more useful (or: middle pickup volume on my 370).
A black 360 OS/WB/c63/v64 (all are slightly different in various ways) is my very favorite looking guitar, especially with the fewer frets. I love my 330 and 370/12, but both pale next to the ones with binding.
Re: cases. Older ones come with wooden cases (like a G&G), then the plastic ones, which all crack at some point but are lighter. I just use a Mono M80 when taking it out live.

Re: No, I don't like The Beatles...
I measured the pickups this morning, 10.5 on the bridge and 11.2 on the neck. Definitely the wrong way around for me so I'll swap those when I get my workbench clear. A classic case of a pickups resistance actually not being indicative of their 'heat' too as they're notable higher than all my other guitars on the meter but definitely lower in actual gain. I don't know enough about pickup construction to know why, but I know it's a thing (and to do with the wire size and turns etc).
All I've had to do it turn up my amp a notch, problem solved.

Re: No, I don't like The Beatles...
I've been obsessed looking at black Rick 360s lately. This thread helped fuel this haha.
One of my favorite "rock" guitar sounds is Peter Buck's tone on "The One I Love" and it's a 1981 360 with 14-58 gauge strings. I think the amps are an AC30 and some sort of mesa boogie. That sound (rhythm and solo) is perfect to my ears. I'm not really much of an REM fan but I like PB a lot.

Love early REM and Buck in particular to the point of that album (Document) and have been tempted to go heavier than my usual 12-52 gauge but as previously mentioned, I've been hesitant to mess with the dual truss rod system they used back then. Mine's an '82.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 1:15 pmI've been obsessed looking at black Rick 360s lately. This thread helped fuel this haha.

Re: No, I don't like The Beatles...
Hot thread, Rickys and vintage REM!
In December 1984, I was watching them at their Lyceum gig in London.
Soon after, I bought a ruby 325/12 but discovered it was somebody's home-conversion so converted it back again before swapping it for my P-bass.
I love those 360WBs on Ebay but the colour that would make me jump is Autumnglo/Montezuma brown. (They seem the same to me, are they??)
