To me, it's kind of like, it's my fucking flag too. Just ceding the flag to the worst fucking people doesn't appeal to me.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

they already run the govt so whatever larry. You missed the diatribe I posted about the Constitution and misuses of the flag being criminal when it was written. I've had the constitution set up in my bathroom next to the toilet for years as my "light reading".
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

I've yet to own any "flag" clothing item and I am proud of that. I've also never posted any "Never Forget" 9-11 memes, to me these are essentially the same.

US flags and camouflage are massive no-no's for me. Also see: white guy with dreadlocks.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Given the rampant fuckery surrounding our flag, it's not strange that it's become a symbol of separation and divisiveness. I see both sides, and am firmly on the "it's just a flag and it doesn't equal my identity" crowd. In fact one time in the early 90s I got a full sized flag and laid it down like a rug. Some people walked around it and some gleefully stepped on it. This was around the time of the whole flag-burning protests and I was in a super progressive city (Burlington VT). I guess I'm a dirty socialist.

Re: NGD: Meet the Star Spangled Stanger
I used to play shows in my full Boy Scout BSA leader's uniform- but with the flag on the shoulder sewn on upside-down.
I don't know if I'd brave that nowadays, seeing as the 'statement' may be construed in other not-aligned-with-my-personal-point-of-view ways. I'm 80% sure that I stall have it, though.
Back on point- I'd play that guitar as-is all day every day. I'm still a bit pissed that I didn't land that wacky possibly-owned-by-Buck-Owens American Flag finished Electric XII a decade or so ago. Somebody else here on OSG beat me to it and (beautifully) refinished it. I woulda kept it and played it proudly in the 'you MAGAs can't have the flag ALL to yourselves' kind of attitude.
I love my country. Same way I love my racist grandparents. There's a lot wrong there, but a lot to love as well.

Loving one’s country is such a strange idea to me being a Brit. Party because it’s many countries. And also Empire.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Not to derail.
What is your reasoning for being put off by these things?
I work with a white guy with dreads. He’s one of the most pleasant people I’ve ever met. Probably won’t have a guitar finished with a white guy with dreads on it, but still

Well, this probably could be a thread in and off itself, but I have a strong knee jerk reaction to cultural appropriation. White people have stolen enough from Black culture, dreads are an extension of that in my eyes.Unicorn Warrior wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 7:22 pmNot to derail.
