I played it last night. It almost got covered in Negroni by someone who fell over a monitor
Then I hit a deer on the way home.
A good night was had by all.

It's an interesting XII and it has been on sale for a while, I think...the sunburst in the front always looked a bit weird to me in the photos, although the back of the neck has that reassuring finish wear that make me feel all fuzzy inside.
I've occasionally toy with the idea of getting another 60s XII, as I do miss my old '66, but the prices appear (to me) inflated, especially as it's not a guitar I would play often. Having said that, they are very cool guitars for sure, and incredibly comfortable to play!

I'd say get it if it's still in that under $4K price range- it should be easy to move on if you don't bond with it.
If you've got the gift of wordlery, (a la Mike & Mike's) you might be able to even turn a bit of profit on it.
I haven't even seen a vintage XII listed under $4K for quite a while- if I had funds available I'd be sorely tempted to pick it up- I STILL have never felt a true vintage EXII in my hands...

I have had two and have now a pristine 66 but it hasn’t seen almost any playtime the last 2-3 yearszhivago wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 7:45 amIt's an interesting XII and it has been on sale for a while, I think...the sunburst in the front always looked a bit weird to me in the photos, although the back of the neck has that reassuring finish wear that make me feel all fuzzy inside.

I totally get it...my impression of owning an electric 12 string was like having a chorus pedal built in that I can never switch off!kapepper wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 3:25 amI have had two and have now a pristine 66 but it hasn’t seen almost any playtime the last 2-3 yearszhivago wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 7:45 amIt's an interesting XII and it has been on sale for a while, I think...the sunburst in the front always looked a bit weird to me in the photos, although the back of the neck has that reassuring finish wear that make me feel all fuzzy inside.

Still, a really cool sound...if I had another 12 string, I'd try tuning it in 5ths and see how that would work for me.

Other end of the spectrum here- I've got 14 twelve strings right now,
6-8 of which get regular play (weekly-ish, and I try to rotate my rack regularly)
2 that are on the 'fix list' for one reason or another,
1 that adorns my office wall
1 'couch' guitar that gets dusty a lot
and only one six-string that I still haven't plugged in to an amp yet.

yeah - that front finish looks funky green to me, i thought it might be the cheap foto, but meanwhile the back looks just right in it's cheap foto. and why post shitty pictures these days?
too much ignorance and lack of trying on the seller's part...
NEXT!
good initial scouting though, Johnny.

Re: 1968 Electric XII value?
I've owned 2 electric XIIs - both from 66 in pretty good nick but the F tuners were a PITA. The modern reissue F tuners won't fit. Luckily, on both of the necks the pilot holes are drilled for both Kluson and F tuners as they used up the old necks pre drilled for Klusons. The F tuners cover up the Kluson holes and not many people are aware of this they didn't fill them with dowling or anything. The F tuners were crap on a XII so I fitted Kluson clones to make them usable.
I note the neck is well played - that is IMO a good sign for this type of instrument
