Yeah, there's a richness to a JM neck + middle that begs for big iron and high headroom. Again, exactly why Supros pair so well with JMs. Teles can get away with being thin, spanky, and raw.hulakatt wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 12:27 pmI love my JM with my jtm45 but I play it most with my '66 Bassman. Probably because my Bassman and JM sit in my living room. I don't like it as much with small amps, I usually find that JMs and strats like to have at least 20 watts and multiple speakers to sound their best. I also usually prefer teles with smaller amps and single speakers.

I think any amp works as long as you're willing to use the amp and guitar tone controls to tweak the sound. I use Ampeg, Guilds, Vox and Fender blackface amps with good results, but my "go to" are Fender brownface amps.

I don't think anyone would dispute that. I certainly wouldn't. There's a bell curve that includes most amps out there, but there's just a small handful that really shine, especially if you know how to use an EQ and work your volume pot.

Nearly any really clean Fender amp. Clean being the key word.

Strats but also JMs in particular really shine with the increased fidelity and wider soundstage from the bigger amps. I really need to try one with a Hiwatt.BarnyardCoral wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 7:07 amYeah, there's a richness to a JM neck + middle that begs for big iron and high headroom. Re: Favorite amp for Jazzmaster
I only play Fender & Vox Amps. Most Guitars, including my AV65 JM & AV65 Jag, sound great through them.. For home & small venues I use a 65 PRRI & or modded AC10C1. Medium venues I use 65 DRRI & or Vox AC15 with British Celestion Alnico Blue Spkr..
I usually play 1 Amp at a time when I play out. But, sometimes I pair the comparable sized Vox & Fender Amps then run them thru a Keeley 30MS Double Tracker for an amazing Stereo ADT Sound..
I find Fender & Vox cover everything I do very well…

Re: Favorite amp for Jazzmaster
I've recently begun playing my JM through a Marshall Jubilee 2525H and an SV212 cabinet with one Greenback and one Vintage 30. It has a wonderful, blooming 3d sound. I need an absolutely clean base sound and to my tastes I prefer Marshall cleans to Fender.
Since the Jube is Cathode biased, I swapped in a pair of Genalex Gold Lion KT66s in place of the EL34s. More thump, tight midrange and glassy, clean highs.

Re: Favorite amp for Jazzmaster
Count me in the Vox camp. I played a HWAC15 and 30 with my jags forever. Made the switch to a Fender Super Reverb because I thought I wanted that scooped sound. Turns out, I did not. The super reverb was very pokey and hard for me to tame after getting used to the smooth saturated character of the vox. Fender also got lost in the mix. Fast forward to my transition to JMs from the jag and I was playing a JC-120. Which was fine. But, it was a modern one (and yes they aren’t as good tonally). Wanted the vox sound back and ended up splurging on a Matchless Spitfire 15. Kinda like a Vox with more headroom. Anyway, it’s perfect. I’m enjoying it more and more every time I play it.

64 Revererocket with 7591's..... Amazing cleansounds. I also like it through a Deluxe and Deluxe reverb.
That said They dont sound terrible through the new cleaner type Supro's.

My favorite is Super Reverb. My current SR is a wonderful 74SF.

Re: Favorite amp for Jazzmaster
Basically this. I find most SC Fenders benefit from the mid-bump these amps bring to the table, especially for clean tones that aren't surf/country.
Ampeg reverb/trem is also nothing to shake a stick at, so they're also bringing that to the table.
I'd be willing to wager we hear these amps on WAY more 60s pop/rock recordings than we think. Especially stuff recorded on the east coast of the US (Ampeg territory).
Obligatory...

I'll take Ampeg verb over Fender verb any day.garyfanclub wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 1:09 pmAmpeg reverb/trem is also nothing to shake a stick at, so they're also bringing that to the table.

Once I plugged into my old '65 Jet with a guitar with flats, I heard the perfect clean guitar from countless recordings from the 60's and 70's. I didn't check to see where all those songs were recorded at but I wouldn't be surprised to see NY or Memphis.

Re: Favorite amp for Jazzmaster
Just for fun, I took my Jazzmaster to our monthly gig at the tiki sushi restaurant Kahuna Tiki Tu in North Hollywood. Normally, I just use my steel and ukulele, but we just added some surf tunes like Endless Summer so why not? I had to run the JM through my steel rig, which is a Nocturne Mystery Brain and Mr Black Dlx Dlx+, into a SF Princeton. I really liked the sound of the JM into this amp. Perhaps it’s the 10” speaker.
So, for now, my fav amp for JM is the 1x10 Princeton.
Here’s a brief (and I mean brief) clip shot by the venue owner last night https://www.instagram.com/tv/Cc_8icFFJW ... MyMTA2M2Y=
