NGD! American Original 60s Jazzmaster!
Made some tough choices to make room but I figured this is the last chance to get an AO at a reasonable price before scarcity and inflation take over after the line ends next year. I originally wanted OTM and I had a deal on that fall through. And then I wanted IBM and then that one got bought out from under me while I was putzing around. The same shop had a sunburst that they'd just got in and offered it to me since I lost out on the IBM model. I decided now or never so I went for it. And wow am I glad I did! You couldn't ask for a more iconic look than the mid-60's sunburst JM with tort guard. This guitar is BEAUTIFUL in person. The sunburst is a rich brown (not orange) with a nice dark and subtle red fade.
Only critiques (and apparently this is a THING with buying a 2021 production guitar due to them rushing) is a few of the plastic parts aren't finished very cleanly. The knobs have a few plastic burrs on the edges. The pickup selector switch tip looks oddly a little dirty (maybe it was the last one in the bin?). Either way, no big deal at all.
This one was brand new out of the box. 2021 made. Fender also threw a "75th Anniversary" commemorative neck plate in the case. The strings were still in tune out of the case! It's set up pretty much perfectly and plays great. Sounds fantastic! Everything you'd expect out of a vintage style JM.

Congrats! You're not wrong - that's a beautiful 'burst!
The mention of a "75th Anniversary" commemorative neck plate got me curious, so I went to check my AO '60s JM case to see if I had one, too. No such luck, but I do have the bridge cover that I'll never use (even though they look cool).

Beautiful! I got mine last week as well for the exact same reasons although I managed to get an OTM one, think at this point it's possibly the last one in the UK totally out of stock everywhere
I managed to get one of the 75th anniversary plates as well although there was a leaflet included saying it may damage the guitar installing it. Guessing that's just the standard disclaimer though.

Congrats on the NGD! That is indeed a very tasteful burst. Do you have any pics of the 75th anniversary neck plate that you could share?

Re: NGD! American Original 60s Jazzmaster!
Update after a few days with her:
I thought maybe the complaints about the stock bridge were overblown. Last night after playing for about an hour (and with about 3 hours total on the guitar so far) all of a sudden I noticed the bridge is rattling. And then the A string was buzzing out of nowhere. And then the G string went "sitar" so badly that you could hear it loud and clear through the amp. I started trying to troubleshoot it and once I put my radius gauge on the strings I found that the A and G saddles had worked themselves downward just enough that the strings were making incidental contact with the front lip of the bridge plate while vibrating. Adjusted them back into position and the noises ceased.
I went to Mastery's website and put in an order. (I checked and Staytrem is "out of stock" and not available)

It's fairly unacceptable this is an issue on any JM from the Squier models to the AO.
These bridges are just bad design. Many people defend them will all sorts of reasons -- you are using the wrong string gauge, etc., but it should not be like that.
I don't think one should budget for an extra $200 after paying $2k for a guitar.

I agree. But this problem is inherent in any 6-barrel saddle design in my experience. I've seen the same "wandering adjustment posts" on the vintage style six barrel saddle Tele bridge too.mediocreplayer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 8:02 amIt's fairly unacceptable this is an issue on any JM from the Squier models to the AO.

The Staytrem is a 6 barrel saddle design is it not?Powdered Toast Man wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:12 amI agree. But this problem is inherent in any 6-barrel saddle design in my experience. Re: NGD! American Original 60s Jazzmaster!
Honestly have no idea why Fender doesn't just license the mastery design or something (or just use the custom shop bridges on their high end jazzmaster models). I also hate the Mustang-style bridge on high end guitars. The original bridge was cute and 'clever' but in an actual working musician scenario (or anyone for that matter) who the hell wants to deal with it? Total PITA.

Re: NGD! American Original 60s Jazzmaster!
It is, but without the adjustment screws (which is why it works). Those are the problem - the saddle height screws are what end up wandering all over the place due to uneven string pressure on the individual saddle. This is why it even happens on the vintage style 6-barrel Tele bridge. This is why players have been swapping their threaded saddle bridge for a Mustang bridge since the 1960's. Staytrem is just the Mustang bridge with some nylon grommets to prevent screw movement.Mondaysoutar wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 10:48 amThe Staytrem is a 6 barrel saddle design is it not?Powdered Toast Man wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:12 amI agree.
