Is there still no late 60s replacement...
...F-tuners on the market?
I know Schaller do the 70s F-Series but they have that darned shoulder on them that would require some reaming.
My '67 Jag, despite a thorough setup and a full disassemble, clean, regrease and reassemble process just damn well won't stay in tune for more than a song or two. It's not the nut or the Vibrato for sure as I know how to sort those properly. They were pretty stiff and worn before I refurbished them... now they're smooth, but still worn
Suggestions? Or just buckle up and ream the back for replacements?

Back when I looked into I only found there to be replacement 70's style F tuners also.
So, I don't think this will help you, but it's all the advice I have, but Kluson makes some (excellent) F tuners that likely won't be a better fit for you, but I'll mention them anyway just in case:

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Ahhh, that's good. I prefer Klusons as a rule anyway so this is a pleasant surprise, thanks!Larry Mal wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 8:32 amBack when I looked into I only found there to be replacement 70's style F tuners also.

Glad I could help somewhat. I'll also make one other bit of advice, I bet that Hipshot will have something that will fit your guitar without needing to ream the holes any bigger by using their UMP system.

Re: Is there still no late 60s replacement...
All the current F tuner replacements are essentially copies of, or retrofits for the Schaller made version, including those Klusons, and will require enlarging the peghead for the larger diameter housing/bushing. Those first F tuners were made by Fender, so the only place to find replacements are from another period Fender. If this is a guitar you want to play, I'd counterbore the rear and install Schaller guts (if they fit), or Whatever F tuners you can find that are good quality, maybe Gotoh? If you're buying Fenders, look for the country of manufacture on the package. Germany would be Schaller made. Japan would be Gotoh. Taiwan would be Ping.

Just received the Schallers in the mail from Thomann. They are stiff and clunky feeling, with chome plated plastic knobs. Feels like the grease has dried up. Also, I noticed the holes down the inside seemed small. Looks like they wont take a string larger than 50 gauge...so useless for a Jaguar
Now I gotta go through all the fuss of sending them back AND still haven't solved the problem. Ergh.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but I put a set of these from Darren Riley on my Coronado (reissue) neck and have been quite happy with them.

The coro had the weird, modern Fender tuners so not much work reaming was necessary but I did have to buy a set of adaptor bushings from StewMac. All in all, worth the effort.

Those are absolutely identical to the Schallers, just with an F stamp. Were yours smooth when they arrived or feel kinda 'juddery'/stiff?parry wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 8:22 amNot exactly what you're looking for, but I put a set of these from Darren Riley on my Coronado (reissue) neck and have been quite happy with them.

Quite good! Solid and smooth over here
They've been on for over a year and no issues.

Re: Is there still no late 60s replacement...
My main concern is that, seeing as these are clearly the exact tuner, I'll still not be able to fit a 56g Low E string down the middle

Hmmmmm.
Can't comment for sure, for sure... but I also had this same set on my Bass VI with heavy Labella flats and didn't have any issues
