Well, I know that Ben (Theworkoffire) has put Vintage Vibe Jag P90 pickups in his Sg-3 replica. And he told me that he loves those. But I don't know how close to the original these are. May be you could ask him.Sonichris wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 11:26 amHere's a question for those of you who have a SG-2 or 3. I love love love the sound of my SG-2, and would like to get pickups that sound the same for another project. What pickups are close to the sound of the Yamaha's? I assume some sort of P90? that's the one style pickup I have very little experience with.

^^ They're not too far off, but the Yamahas are a little warmer, a little higher output. Maybe with Alnico II or III magnets and/or a stronger wind the VV Jag P90s might be closer.

Josh Homme playing an SB-50. Always nice to see old Yamaha's getting some professional use.

Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
Man guitarcenter has an sg-2 in red for like $500 a couple months back but I slept too long and when I committed to pulling the trigger it was gone
I was obsessed with getting an SA-50 though and by the time I ended up with one it was just impossible for me to bond with it. It was a bummer because it looked SO COOL but just never felt good to me at all. I was able to pass it on to a forumite who seemed to really love it though and I didn’t lose any money so that was cool.
I keep myself from getting too upset by thinking that an SG-2 or whatever would probably result in the same thing. That tremolo though, there’s gotta be something there.

I own a SG-12 and I must say it feels the most solid of all 12 strings I've held. The strings are really low and it's a breeze to play.

On the other end there has been a sunburst one for sale for a loooonnnggggg time in Germany for something like 900 euro's.
They are great guitars and I guess foundsound knows their way around Yamaha's but I do think the price quite high on that 12 string.
Mine is quite heavy btw.
(Edit: 1100 euro's. It's been for sale for at least 6 months, so I'm pretty sure you can offer less.
Here's the link: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Vintage-E-Gitar ... ctupt=true it's pickup but I guess there is always a way.)

There was a cool Red '66 SG-2 project on ebay yesterday - It was missing a few minor things, but the tip of the headstock had been broken off.
It went for $338.

1100 Euros is almost $1800AUD, then you'd need to factor in at least $500 for shipping, customs duty (tax) and insurance.surfin_bird wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 3:13 amOn the other end there has been a sunburst one for sale for a loooonnnggggg time in Germany for something like 900 euro's.

Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
Recently I was on Ebay at 3 am looking at random vintage Yamaha's and I stumbled upon a Yamaha SG3C listed as a "Yamaha Samurai." The listing was ending in just a few hours and it had pretty low bids. I put in a max bid and woke up the next morning and I won! I got it for around $500 with some decently expensive shipping from Mexico City.
The guitar arrived a few weeks later in a small box with the body stacked on top of the neck
After putting it together I realized really quickly that the guitar would need a full refret. I just got the guitar back from the shop and their are definitely some oddities to the guitar.
For one the neck is a 7.25" radius while the bridge is 12." Second the pickups are body mounted with no adjustment screw so the bridge pick up is way too low.
My luthier was convinced it was a neck from a different guitar but the neck seems original to my understanding. The only things that seem uonoringal to me are the tuners, the tremolo arm/spring and the pickguard screws.
Does anyone have an SG3C or SG2C that can confirm neck/bridge radius of another example?

Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
I’m pretty sure all my flying banana’s are 7.25”. There is something weird going on though. The bridge will not create any angle on the strings which, according to my luthier, is actually very good for intonation.
