Gotcha! I was joking.
But your response was so kind & helpful, now I feel guilty...

Re: My Jazzmaster's tremolo makes a squeeking noise.
Zombie thread, back to life!
My AVRI trem has a wee rattle and squeak whenever I use it. It's distracting to me, because I can "feel" it even when I can't hear it.
But I wouldn't say that it's the spring, necessarily.
What other joints in there could use some lubrication?

I prefer olive oil. Also works to clean stickers off!
I prefer their older stuff.

I'd simply try every other moving part.cursesfoiled wrote: What other joints in there could use some lubrication?

Re: My Jazzmaster's tremolo makes a squeeking noise.
Follow-up: no lubrication required.
My problem was that the tremolo bar was rattling inside of the shaft. As soon as I bent a slight curve to the part of the bar that inserts into the shaft, the bar created enough pressure to hold itself tight inside. Not only did the rattling stop, but there's no loose swinging and I don't worry about it falling out. The curve is slight enough, though, that I can easily pull the bar out when I need to. As soon as the bar was tight like this, there were fewer squeaks too, because I needed less pressure to move the tremolo properly.

WD 40 all the way. Hell, I use that stuff indiscriminately. If I were even remotely famous, there would have been a Slavemaster WD 40 signature model
We got people playing stringed instruments! It's the end of days.

Re: My Jazzmaster's tremolo makes a squeeking noise.
i read this old thread with great interest as my repro trem also makes odd spring noises. i'm gonna try with some (but not too much) engine grease, as it's more viscous and not so likely to come off and touch the wood, which would be not such a good thing i guess. the nice tonewood sucking oil or grease is probably not so nice...

Re: My Jazzmaster's tremolo makes a squeeking noise.
Mine makes the same kind of noise, I lubed it up and still have the same issue. I can't find any moving part in there that I haven't vaselined. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed a noisey spring? Maybe I should replace it... I'm not sure!
Anyone??
Anyone??
