1973 LPB Jazzmaster
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1973-Fender- ... SwVkVetvJP
Just come across this (no affiliation, I hasten to add.....)
I thought it was really interesting looking at the photos. We're so used to seeing nitro finished guitars and the wear on these, either natural wear or relics. It's not often we see what almost 50 years of wear looks like 'up close' on a poly finish (which I'm pretty sure is what this is?).
It's certainly not as nice looking as a worn nitro finish, but it's by no means a bad look.....

Blue guitars are normally not my thing. Possibly my least favourite colour...
- BUT THAT
Good Lord, do I love that. Wow.

This is a thread started by the previous owner about the same guitar (as linked from the ebay page)

These are very good, honest photographs.
LPB can be a bitch to photograph as it tends to look completely different under house lights or in shade.
I had a '72 Competition Blue (LPB) Mustang that looked exactly the same as this, minus the dents & cracks.
Another example of how non-matching headstock guitars win. Really, really nice!

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Very nice. I might be tempted if they considered shipping it!
If 1973 was the last year for custom colours, what would have been the last year for matching headstocks?

Re: 1973 LPB Jazzmaster
It's a lovely guitar - the guy selling it got it from me. I forget his name now (edit: possibly Alex?) but he drove down from Scotland to London to pick it up (he met some family at the same time so isn't a total nutter!!).
The colour is very close to Ocean Turquoise in nearly all lights other than direct sunlight when it jumps back to a more classic, bright LPB.
Either way, it's a beautiful thing and I'm half tempted to get it back... The story about the case is true as I bought the guitar in said case and threw it away when he decided he didn't want it. The screws from the hinges poked through where the hole is on the body (there were little wood fragments in the case ) and the neck one, which he's right is nowhere near as bad as it looks due to the discolouration of the wood, was done by a metal popper used to secure a neck "strap" that was supposed to hold the neck in place in the case but was long gone by the time it got to me.
Lovely dark rosewood board on that, too. Ah, memories...

Blocks and binding is the best. Reminds me of a Ocean Turquoise partsmaster I just put together.

I used to own a '73 LPB JM just like the one that was posted. Kind of miss it. Great geets!
