iPhone recording app for capturing practices?
I know the mic in the phone is the one major limitation. Just hoping to find something simple with input level control and peak limiting. The ability to do some simple editing (cut out chatter, add fades, etc...) would be cool too, as would Dropbox integration.

Sounds like you're describing GarageBand for iOS.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

Why not just the app that captures voice memos?
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

That did remind me clips can be trimmed in Voice Memos though.

Maybe invest in one of those Zoom field recorders? There's probably plenty of apps out there that will do what you need, it'll always be of terrible quality, though.

Re: iPhone recording app for capturing practices?
I’d rather not buy another device, and honestly with my current phone Voice Memos is at least acceptable (recordings with my old phone were a distorted mess). Just wondering if there’s anything else out there in a simple app that folks here like. The main issue with Voice Memos is a lot of pumping from the compression/automatic level setting.

Try Four Track or FiRE.

Re: iPhone recording app for capturing practices?
I'm trying Voice Record Pro right now. It's sort of driven home the point that the phone's mic is the weak link. The adjustable input gain on the app helps a little, but the mic is still blowing up.
Thinking about getting one of these.
I already have one of these:
...and a few dynamic mics to pick from. Seems worth a shot for about $4. Anybody kluged together a mic setup they like?

Ah shit, one of those Whirlwind transformers would totally open up my bodged-together iphone/iPad setup. Glad I checked this thread!

Apple has a free iOS app called Music Memos that is specifically designed to capture, well, music content. It’s what I use when I need to record an idea.

Re: iPhone recording app for capturing practices?
My drummer has a Blue Snowball USB mic that’s been gathering dust and my bass player has an old tablet of some kind so we will probably give that combo a shot, although if I can adapt it to work with my phone I’d prefer that since I’m the one with the most time to upload/edit stuff.
