Re: Who's digging their MXR Distortion+ ?!
I've been meaning to build one of these for quite a while now. I figure I'll grab a newer one, gut it, and rebuild it with all new, good quality parts. I'm developing a habit of doing that (have a Blue Box on the way which I am doing that with also)
This isn’t some kind of metaphor
Goddamn this is real

The MXR distortion + / DOD250 is probably my fav type of bare bones overdrive. I have a slight pref towards the old and new DOD offerings. I would strongly recommend checking out the new DOD250. They're like $40 and sound awesome.

Re: Who's digging their MXR Distortion+ ?!
few things are better than a GREAT fuzzy drive sound with just 2 knobs.
i had to take it off my board b/c i used it too much (and b/c it belongs to a bassist friend of mine - bought it from some White Cross guitarist).
i should really get rid of my other drives and just use two of these.

All those Husker Du records are the reason I had to have one... Swapped it for an older Ross though. Can't remember if it pre-dates the MXR or not?Pacafeliz wrote:i know Bob Mould seems to have used one of these too, who else?

It's great though it doesn't quite have the power of other Ge drive pedals. I think I prefer the early Wipers setting-Max Volume, Minimum Distortion.
Users I know of: Greg Sage, Randy Rhoads, Bob Mould, Jerry Garcia, Thom York, Kurt Cobain, Slash.

I love mine so much. I do mod them, though... I replace one of the GE diodes with a Silicone one. This gives it more punch and more output... but keeping one GE diode helps it keep its original flavor.
It's a very versatile yet classic sound... from The Sex Pistols (thru a twin reverb i think) to Rush (moving pictures). Most people mention Randy Rhoads but his sound is so harsh thanks to those Altec speakers he put in his cabs
Running an old MXR micro amp before it is a very tried and true classic rock lead sound.

Like it so far? I love the sound of the SS/BS Mini on bass, but I have a feeling that a Grey Channel is in my future with that much versatility and that many options.MechaBulletBill wrote:I bought a Gray Channel last night...

Thank you, for detailing your mod in that old D+ thread! Yours is the same mod I finally settled on with mine, and it's superbOffYourFace wrote:I love mine so much. I do mod them, though... Re: Who's digging their MXR Distortion+ ?!
Right, just had a quick 10-minutes with the EQD...
Lots of nice gain textures in there and lots of useful sounds. I really like it BUT I can't help but notice a few things:
-it's a bit muddy when you crank the gain on a lot of settings, but turning up the amp treble fixes that.
-there's a lot of similar sounds in there, so it really is like having two of the same pedal
-maybe it's the low output SCs in my tele but there isn't humongous amounts of clipping/compression on tap. Maybe it's because they want you to boost it with another EQD pedal...?
Nevertheless, a great take on that dist+/250 vibe.

Whaaaaaattt BATTERY SNAP? Ok, that makes this pedal about 10-20% more useful to me. I'd have thought EQD would be on the environmentally-friendly-but-subtly-cost-cutting anti-battery bandwagon but NOPE! the insides are neat and beautiful and I think I'm gonna like this stomp.

I bought one recently and have enjoyed it very much. Volume at 3 and drive at 9 (clock hand directions)

Re: Who's digging their MXR Distortion+ ?!
I think my favorite setup with this is volume at max, Distortion at min, along with my DM-2W and Phase 100. Running the Cobain Jaguar through that sounds like early Cat Power.
