Have you done anything to the headstock? A spot of light sanding might help even it up a bit
Looks PIMPING though dude. Great job

i wet-sanded it up to 2500g but stayed off the decal until i hit 2500. i dont want to lose any more of it if i dont have to. i did go over the entire thing with the buffer and compound but again went easy on the lower bout w/decal.mgeek wrote:Have you done anything to the headstock? i suppose i COULD wet sand the decal completely off and put the replacement that i have on it but i just can't bring myself to do so. it's original man. OG shit is OG. some (more than likely) dead dude stuck that decal on there. respect the dead!Pacafeliz wrote:and maybe put a new logo atop the old one, so it looks even righter?!
i do have a spare 65 jag decal just hanging out ..............2fLAz wrote: a Jaguar decal

this is so great. Like another post on here, my first vintage was also a Mustang, sold not too long ago...maybe a year or so.... this thread is making me tremendously nostalgic! You've done a tremendous job.

ditto. my first encounter with a vintage guitar was my friends fathers 72 competition blue mustang. my first guitar was a first run mim cyclone b/c i couldnt afford a real mustang. then i snagged a sonic blue w/red tort Japanese mustang WHICH i traded straight across for a black on black rosewood 75 mustang. loved that guitar. regretfully sold it sometime in 2002.
i need to get my old external hard drive hooked up. pictures galore of gear gone by and hundreds of pictures i snagged from ebay auctions back when ebay was still 'cool'.
stringing this up over lunch today. bought a generic neck plate and screws yesterday which will be swapped for a correct s/n'd F plate as soon as it arrives. pickups are en route, eta next week.
figured i'd set it up and get it as ready as i could. give it some tension time. been a long time since neck and body were together as one. almost shed a tear last night when i bolted the two together.
crappy lighting basement pics...

Tried to get a pic of the flamed neck. Headstock pic was best I could do. Strung it up over lunch today. Resonant little bastard. Tuners need some oil. Intonation needs to be adjusted a little better - ran out of time. Plays great. Will probably need a new nut OR fill & cut a new slot for the G as it buzzes on the first. Pretty rad opening the case and seeing this thing.

Stunning. Mine was a bit of an ugly duckling. Very old refin on a 64/65 L Series.
I loved it though. Great neck.

Gav Haus that thing is rad. Love the look of it. The wear on the back is killer.
JoeySlush - Narp. No overspray. The back and sides still have some of the original topcoat. The front has a super thin layer left on it. Got lucky. Turned out better than I thought it would.

Much appreciated. Quite a compliment. Wouldn't change a thing on this guitar.Connorater wrote:This is the only competition striped guitar I've ever liked, wow
It's a unique instrument unlike anything else out there. To me, priceless.
