Can I see your Shell Pink Offsets? (Pickguard-related)

Post by skeletonsmith » Thu Jan 11, 2024 12:32 pm

I'm on the Fence selling my FSR Shell Pink Squier CV 60s Jaguar from 2021.
It plays great, sounds good, has Staytrem-Upgrades and generally I like it. The Problem is.... the Colour.
Normally I love Shell Pink, but this Run was "pinker" than i expected it to be.

Comparison of a 2020 Squier Cyclone to the 2021 Jag:

It came with a way too mint PG (for my Taste), so I changed it to a bright Red. And called it the Strawberry Jag and loved it.
But the last Months it started to bother me.

Original Pickguard

What do you think would look good on it? I'm not a huge Fan of Tortoise. Thinking about Parchment, Cream, Black, Transparent.... I don't know. Or is it the white PU-Covers or the Ivory-Tip of the Trem that doesn't work (in my Eyes) ?

So please show me your Shell Pink Offsets (or Guitars in general) please.

Personally, I think that the mint guard looks incredible on it. Classic and classy. If you don't dig that though I'd go parchment.

Here is Penny‘s FSR 70s Jaguar with a black guard.

It currently sports an anodized gold guard (which I personally don‘t like very much on it - so I never cared to take photos, it seems).

Parchment looks great on it too.

I'm with Jonesie.

It looks great with the original mint guard.

I went parchment. Mint can be absolutely gorgeous but it's got to be the perfect shade otherwise it can look awful imo

Sounds like it needs some sunlight to take the edge off the pink.

Does sunlight really do anything to the more recent Squier’s poly lacquer?
I tried to yellow my (recently sold) VM Body for 3 years by putting it out in the sun/to the window fairly often.

The headstock on my Squier Bass VI has significantly changed/yellowed, but the body hasn't. I am curious why that is

Weirdly, the headstock and body on my CV VI reacted differently to sun. The headstock acquired a pale yellow cast (kind of peach over the pink) almost instantly - the strings actually cast a shadow if you look carefully. The body faded a bit paler, but not drastically - less luminous pink now! So be careful and cover the headstock!
Super hard to shoot it accurately but this image shows it out of the box, above, and after some suntanning (below). The Photoshop tool shows the headstock colour on the lower half of the circle and the body colour on the top half.

Same exact thing happened. Headstock is peach-ish (and when I change strings you can see the shadow too), but the body has remained pretty much the same bright pink. I wish the body faded along with the headstock...

Crazy! I kept sun fading mine with the headstock wrapped, but the body went paler and not peach coloured.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like red-based colors still fade somewhat, but nowhere near as much as they did in the '50s and '60s.
