The AVRI colors are awesome but I would never be caught dead paying today's prices for one. They are nudging up towards CS and vintage territory (especially for the jags)

Good to know I've been hankering for a bound Tele in sunburst and I just might pull the trigger now on an AO. Thanks for the info!Powdered Toast Man wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 12:40 pm
Yes, the AVRI (pre-2012) are not as good as the AV (12-17) or AO (18-present). The entire American Vintage line was redone from the ground up and relaunched in 2012. The AO series is the same parts and pieces as the preceding AV series with just a few tweaks to the specs like the 9.5" neck radius and the fret wire (both of which are basically Custom Shop specs).
I have an AO60's Tele and it blows away my 2008 AVRI 52 Tele. Everything is just a step up. The AO60's Tele in particular is the best guitar I've ever laid hands on. It's all the parts from the AV64 except they added body binding (to make it a Tele Custom) and the 9.5" fretboard radius and taller fret wire.

If you're patient enough you can still get them for reasonable deals, depending on from where and condition.
I sold my (very) roadworn Aztec Gold AV65 JM for £900 just a few months ago (with full Mastery bridge/Vibrato/tree upgrade) and a couple of weeks ago snagged an AV65 Jag in Ice Blue Metallic, with just a couple of blemishes, for £1350 landed from Japan (through Ishibashi). That's verging on the price they were new I think but IMHO not too bad considering desirability and current demand.
eBay and Reverb asking prices are not really a good yardstick for actual real-world prices either...too many chancers trying to capitalise. They almost always end up having to sit in their 'investment' for long enough that they get agitated and start dropping the price. Patience, as always, seems to be key

Looks like he's trying to get around double what he paid you for it. I would've took this off your hands for that price. I don't mind guitars that look like this, especially if it happened naturally. Were the frets really worn on it? I'm guessing they were. He probably won't drop it into a reasonable price range, but at the right price I'd pick it up.

Yeah, that's the one. He took out the WRHB and tort guard, changed two things and is trying to double his money. The frets weren't too bad, probably have one or two heavy dresses left in them. For a long time I had the neck from another JM attached that saw most of the wear and tear.smora wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 10:59 pmWait, is it this one?johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 9:22 pmI sold my (very) roadworn Aztec Gold AV65 JM for £900 just a few months ago (with full Mastery bridge/Vibrato/tree upgrade) and a couple of weeks ago snagged an AV65 Jag in Ice Blue Metallic, with just a couple of blemishes, for £1350 landed from Japan (through Ishibashi). I thought £900 was more than fair considering it had all the Mastery stuff and it sold within 30mins on FB (no bites on here after a few days of posting so resorted to the idiot masses).
He's clearly an idiot at he's listed it as Firemist instead of the obvious shade of Aztec

If you plan to keep it and know what you want spec-wise just grab a Guitar Mill body, neck from anywhere you want, and roll your own.

With normal discounts New USA Fender regular Production Jazzmasters shouldn’t cost more than $1200-$1700+Tax.. While the AV65’s are discontinued I’m sure one or more of the current Models are excellent Guitars..Larsongs wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 7:43 amBrand new American JM’s MAP Prices range from $1400 to $2100 for Production built USA Guitars. Excludes CS & FSR’s… I’m sure there is one of those that would be a great Guitar.
Prices are still negotiable & 15% - 20% discounts are doable…
That would be the route I’d be taking & I own xlnt AV65 JM & Jag…
I wouldn’t pay more than that for a Used one.

Things are worth what people will pay for them, end of story.

Re: Current AVRI Jazzmaster prices - are they worth it?
People often do irrational things just because they *can*. Outliers don't move an entire market. One AVRI selling for $4000 USD because some guy had always dreamed of one and just found the color he HAD to have doesn't instantly mean all Sonic Blue AVRIs from whatever year are now worth $4000.
Irrational decisions do not define the bounds of pricing and 'worth'. I buy stuff all the time that wasn't worth the price I paid!

Re: Current AVRI Jazzmaster prices - are they worth it?
The truth. Although the post-covid wave has waned considerably and the market stalled. This has affected prices noticeably.
Right now over here in the UK you can pick up a 7/10-condition AVRI or AV65 in sunburst for £900-1200, 'custom colour' models tend to sell for £1100-1800 depending on what finish. White, Black, Red, etc - the more common colours - about 1100-1400, unusual ones like OTM, LPB, IBM, Shell pink, etc are 1300-1800 at point of sale. I haven't seen any/many sell for much higher yet.

And quite rightly, if someone wants it hard enough, they'll pay.
Plus, I've noticed prices over in Germany tend to be higher as a rule
