The OffsetGuitars Forum Members Music Catalogue / You make music ? Post a link !

Post by k o y l » Tue Aug 07, 2007 1:46 pm

I'm a member here since 3 months and it's been 3 months that I'm telling myself it would be great to have a place where we can have links to the music composed by members.

fourmations question on another thread encouraged me to finally do it so here it is:

                                            Ladies and Gentlemen:

The Definitive and Complete OffsetGuitars Forum Members Music Catalogue

So if you make music and don't mind to let other members to give it a listen
... and maybe tell you you're the greatest living artist since the -------------- (<--- put the name of your favourite band/artist here... Spice Girls, East 17.. I don't mind really.. :P )..
Post a link to your website/myspace/you tube.. whatever.. as long as there is a sound coming out of it...
And a little description of what kind of music to expect. Something that will make us want to listen to it.

Comments are welcome (but try to not just say "cool" or "kick ass" in order to prevent this topic from having 15435 pages in 2 days.. thanks !  ;) )

I'll be copying every links in the 2nd post so it will be more convenient and readable.  :)

Please don't be shy  !  ;)

I'll start the dance:

Sorry for the french bio (I'm working on an english translation since...6 months  :-X ).
Basically it says that it's a solo project relying on the use of self sampling/looping guitars and a laptop for all the other sounds.
I try to use the guitar to make "other" kind of sounds that it was meant to produce.
I see a relation with Quatum physics in the way I make music (much too complicated to explain in english) that's why I call it "the Quantum music experiment"
... and if I should give a style name to the music i'm doing, it would be "Cinematic Ambient Post-Punk"

Note: The more elaborated songs can be found in the player, of course, but you'll also find some other tracks available for free download underneath the player. These other tracks are live unedited improvisations, live tracks or demos..
(feel free to tell me if you find a dead link there, I'll put a new & working link)

Edit: The english bio is now online

I'm currently playing bass for Cutaways - http://www.myspace.com/cutaways

It's a lot of fun - Paul writes the songs, but we all chip in with ideas about how to make them better.

I also play guitar in Jedi Jane - http://www.myspace.com/jedijane but we're on a hiatus at the moment.

We play two-guitar nu-wave psych-pop-rock a la Television, Echo, Feelies, XTC, Hitchcock.  Try it, you'll like it.

My main gig is Beautiful World:

http://myspace.com/beautifulworldband

I play bass and do some production work. Our first official single has been released and album out soon (Oct 07).

If anyone happens to be in Sydney this friday night (11th August) come and see us at the Sandringham hotel in Newtown.

My other part time gig at the moment is Sounds Like Sunset, lots of offsets and all the stuff I love, and I think most of you will too:

This is the band in which I play drums:

http://www.myspace.com/lauroreetsesmartyrs

Our little self-produced, 1000$-costing, 5-song EP is the album of the week in a well-known Montreal cultural weekly newspaper and got a very positive review in the same issue.  8)

And this is my guitar band (I do the singing too...).... The songs on this MySpace are some of the worst sounding stuff you'll find on the web.. :-[ But a demo has been recorded for that project and songs from it should be online next week.

My solo project:
www.myspace.com/oranggoreng
Me on vocals/guitars/bass/organ/drum computer/random instruments and found items that make noise. A band (Orang Goreng dan Harimau^2) is in the making, with the other members of Pony Pack and two more friends.

The band I'm in:
www.ponypack.nl (www.myspace.com/ponypack)
Me on guitar in the live line-up; the recordings were done before I joined.

I don't know how to categorize music. Pony Pack tends to be announced as an "indie punk" band, whatever that is. OG is what...continental Euro-garage postpunk wavesoul?

I've stickied this thread.

here are mine:

ellis the vacuumchild (every song ever recorded / myspace / website)
instrumental, experimental indie rock influenced by SY, unwound, mogwai, tortoise...
i mostly play guitar, but on some older songs (like "summershitty songs") i play bass. i also play drums on one song on our album.

paper fist (http://myspace.com/paperfist)
this is just me playing around at home, doing whatever comes to mind. like doing a cover of "dancing in the dark".

until death do us part (http://myspace.com/voilum)
indie/punk/electro. i play various instruments live (guitar, mono-synth, organ, drums, vocals) but on these recordings i only contributed with backing vocals on "painkiller RMX".

brisco (http://myspace.com/briscotheband)
this is an old band of mine. the music could be described as post-hardcore i guess. i played the drums, but on these recordings i played a lot of guitar as well.

truckstar (http://myspace.com/truckstarband)
this was one of my first bands. kinda melodic rock with influences from the earlier emo-wave (NOT emo as we know it today).
me on guitar and terribly bad vocals. i also played bass and programmed the drums on the two instrumental songs.

No way .. you kept that quiet!

I just discovered them a little while back and bought the album, which I love. Are you on it?

I tried to start a thread about them here but it kinda sank.

I didn't listen to everysongs of every one's band or project yet but I heard lots of great stuff so far !  :)  Every music project is interesting in its own way actually. (It seems playing offsets provides some kind of talent.. ;) ).

This is great !  :)

A few words about the list:
As you can see, if you don't tell me how to name what you do, I try to name it myself...
Of course I name your music after what I perceive of it and also the categories you're in on myspace.
It may not be very accurate to you, If it's the case feel free to tell me what you'd like to see instead of the odd name style I inflicted to the music you make...  ;)  (and god knows I can make up some very weird music style name... you're warned now..  :P )
Once you're lost in twilights's blue, you don't find your way. The way finds you...
