I love using flatwound 11 gauge strings! They produce a darker and fuller sound in my opinion, and you don't need to constantly change them as they last longer. Two of my favorite guitar players also use flatwounds.

Holy crap.
So I strung up the pyramid fusion 12s on a traditional spec’d JM the other day.
Wow just wow.
These are so damn nice. Absolutely love them.
The 11 set was good but the 12 is great.

FYI I tried a set of these on a new guitar and the D string was completely dead. Don't recommend.rhythmjones wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 3:35 pmErnie Ball has a new flat series

Re: Flatwounds on JM
I’ve been in the same set of Fusion Flats for a while, now, and I’m as impressed as ever. I think that with the occasional wipe down, these will last a short eternity.
That’s a shame. Overall, Slinkies have treated me well, but flat wounds can be a different beast, altogether.rhythmjones wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 7:45 pmFYI I tried a set of these on a new guitar and the D string was completely dead. Re: Flatwounds on JM
I play surf, so flatwounds are kind of the standard. But I like to bend a lot for leads, which is hard to do with flat wounds. I’ve found half wounds to be a pretty good compromise.

Fusion Flats seem to bend, quite well.

Re: Flatwounds on JM
I use D’Addario Chromes on my Jazzmaster, but it’s a custom gauge. I buy a set of 13-56 but ditch the wound 56 and and put a plain 10 on the 1st E to end up with 10-46 flats that last for years.
I’ve tried using a wound 3rd but always break them when doing string bends, so I go for a homemade custom set of Chromes. I have the same set on a Tele, a Danelectro DC59, a RI Silvertone 1478, a Guild Starfire III, plus a heavier gauge for my bass and my acoustic.
Flats on a Jazzmaster though. Love ‘em. They just work for the slightly darker tone that I like. Plus I hate the ‘finger squeak’ you get with roundwounds. And not having to change strings so often is a bonus. If you need a heavier gauge then flats will probably work even better I reckon.
