funny, i have no horses in this race, I have only ever been aware of Slowdive, but never listened to them I don't think. the cover art of the new one caught my attention, so I listened, and I quite like the album. it's a good one to have playing while working actually. and Andalucia Plays is my favorite off the album. just found it funnysunburster wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 5:14 pmI think the new album is great, except 'andalucia plays', which I really don't like at all. I think it's better than their 2017 album, but it isn't as good as their first three albums. I also think that this new album has the worst mixing and drum sound of any album they've ever released.

Re: new Slowdive track
i will definitely look into his solo albums! thanks!sunburster wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 12:36 pmCheck out Neil Halstead's solo albums (he's Slowdive's singer/guitarist/songwriter). It sounds like a song off of one of those, so you'd probably like those albums.

Listening to the new album now and absolutely love it.
This is evolution of their sound, probably is not going to please everyone.
Opening track is really good imo.

Re: new Slowdive track
I’ve been enjoying the new record, more with each listen, but it doesn’t quite do it for me. I was most excited by the opening moments (as a new direction / update of Pygmalion in a Moroder vein), and the rest of the album hasn’t really grabbed me. Enjoyable / pleasant but everything just floats by, with most songs quickly fading out rather than ending. It almost feels more like a soundtrack than an album.
I’m fine with it, honestly, but a bit disappointed. I’d loved the last one (a career highlight imo) and Pygmalion, but this splits the difference between the two without the “songs” as it were, like an excellent b-sides collection. (I wish they’d revisited some of the Souvlaki demo era stuff or release it officially).
For the amorphous ambient background stuff, I’d probably go to older Morr Music label and (especially) Ulrich Schnaus.
