A cheap block Jaguar neck without a lip exists!

Post by Stepney » Tue Jan 10, 2023 3:30 am

I’ve been searching for ages for an economical Jaguar neck with block and binding and heel truss rod access for a project.

There’s plenty of Chinese options out there that appear to be the correct scale, headstock shape, and number of frets, but as many of us have found, they frustratingly have a fretboard lip.

I stumbled across this seller on eBay last night that appears to have what I’ve been looking for (albeit with a roasted maple finish, which I’m not keen on, but I intend to paint the headstock anyhows so not a major issue).

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394409770627 ... media=COPY

Has anyone taken a chance on one of these? Anyone notice anything off at all? The headstock shape looks a bit weird to me with the curve out from the high E, but that might be my wonky eyesight.

Very tempted!

Must be a thing now - here's another Chinese seller with what appears the to be same neck:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/374445199124?h ... BMwIn1wrNh

... and another (bit cheaper this time):
https://www.ebay.ie/itm/394410416079?ha ... GTR=1#shId

...and one more for luck: https://www.ebay.com/itm/354503547000?h ... R8KJ9cKzYQ

Finally, here's another with what appears to be the correct scale/fret and no lip, but with black blocks:

I mean, the headstock is kinda' like the Warmoth version and the side dots are weird but you can't have everything.
Pretty cool, I reckon.

What is a fretboard lip?

edit* Do you mean the fretboard extends past the heel for higher fret count?

I believe thats what's being referred to, most of these other jaguar/mustang scale necks on ebay have the 22nd fret overhang when it shouldn't.

Aka an overhang.

cool, would love to know how it all feels. I don't know if i'm just terrible at searching but it seems hard to find any 24 inch scale necks that aren't just taken off a jaguar or mustang.

I dropped two sellers a line trying to get shipping quotes to Ireland (where I'm based), but neither have responded yet.

Worth bearing in mind that New Year celebrations are about to kick in which pretty much puts a full stop on getting anything delivered / ordering anything from China for the best part of a month.

My Jag neck arrived today.
First impression: I'm very impressed!
Cosmetically, it looks great. The side dots are wacky but I can live with that.
I'd happily pop one of these on a Squier Jag body or Mexican Jag.
