Re: Got an amp.
Got some vinyl cleaner, looks pretty good I think. All done recapping, the leads were all bent up, most of the caps btw.. But the important thing is that they work.
Those big can caps are a fucking pain to remove. Even with the big tip iron i have. That being said i think i just started way before it was hot enough. After about 20 minutes it was just melting the blobs on contact... The first few tabs were rough. It's four tabs per can cap.
Haven't cleaned the back panel yet..
Hum improved. Bass sounds a bit nicer i think. Filter caps i upped from 40 uf to 50 uf, 80 uf to 100 uf. That big one outside the board i kept at 80 uf.

let it burn in and it'll sound better. I love the red cloth wiring.

Re: Got an amp.
Will do Mike. Cheers and thanks everyone for the input.
I can't get over how good my firebird sounds through this amp. Sounds like a completely different guitar than when played through the Dumble clone. Sounds way too bright through the Dumble.
Through the Traynor, the sound comes through with thunderous bass added on.

Re: Got an amp.
So after the initial honeymoon, im finding the volume controls could use a different value replacement ..
The amp has 4 meg volume pots, i want to change them for 1 meg audio taper. Channel 2 is at full volume at 1. So new audio pots would help with that.
Also, want to maybe try a different bright cap value... Maybe 100 pf..

Re: Got an amp.
So, I changed volume II, replaced the pot with a 1 meg. I was going to replace the .001 cap with a 250pf.
Turns out I don't have one, and I didn't put the .001 cap back either. Now the pot has a more gradual volume. That being said the volume starts kicking in at Just before 2 on the knob but again, it does so gradually.
I think that it did affect volume 1 as well, as now it isn't as bassier as before. I think it sounds much better. So im done swapping.
Im in the less is more camp, when it comes to modding.

Negative. It's cleanish.. Haven't cranked it after the swap though. I'm working afternoons this week. Got home at 11:30 pm. So haven't really played it very loud at all.
Also, no solder joints had been touched before i opened it up.
I would buy the cleanest of the two. But yeah, get one of them.

Re: Got an amp.
Yeah with the DS-1 i couldn't get the tone knob on the pedal past one, while plugged into the old 4 meg pot, as it would just start squealing.
I had a chance to crank it just now, it seems i do need to put a bright cap back. Channel two has lost some definition. It is much bassier now. Ill order me a 100pf.
