Someone's trying to sell me this Strat...

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

Yeah, it’s not out of phase. Isn’t it in parallel? I’m far from an expert on Stratocaster wiring.
Yep, it's just two adjacent pickups in parallel, like the middle position on any JM, Jag, Les Paul, etc.

It's just that the tone sounds different since the two coils being combined are closer together.

I don't post here often, as I am not an Offset expert and I simply like to learn from more experienced people.

However, I hd to jump on this forum.
I recently got an AV65 Strat in sunburst and man, this guitar may be my new #1 after ten years spent almost exclusively on my AV52 Telecaster.

I am shocked at how good it looks, plays and sounds.
I will not go into details, but this is how a Strat should be in my opinion and if the price is good, jump on it.
There will not be much of them available in the future and they hold their value.
Great colour too!

you don't like Strats...
...yet.
Mindset is important.

Obviously the playability and sound of any guitar is critical (and should be the only selection criteria), however most of us have biases for and against certain things based on association. As for Strats, there’s been a fair bit of anti-Strat sentiment in recent years due to association with so-called ‘boomers’. I think we (as a collective) are starting to move past that roadblock, thankfully, and can now admit again that Strats are awesome guitars.

Whether or not they are right for you, however, is an individual thing.

I know this is obvious stuff, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded of it sometimes. Cheers!

Strat in the first post looks great – nice colour and deep contours. I just don't like the way they sound. Like an empysemic landlady gargling rubber bands.

Oh yeah... my mistake about phase. I guess the 2 and 4 switch position is what I have never liked, which is really popular with most strat players.

The av65 actually comes with a 3 way switch you can install to replace the 5 way, which I might do someday.

Or you might consider a seven way switch, which will give you the addition of all three pickups at one time as well as the bridge and neck pickup together.

All three pickups at once isn't much more useful than positions 2 and 4 in my opinion, but most of my life I played two pickup guitars so I do miss not having the neck and bridge together.

On the only Strat I own I have a blend knob on the bridge pickup, so I can put in as much of that pickup as I want. It kind of works as an ad hoc EQ, honestly, I add the treble that I want that way.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

That sounds really useful. Having the neck pickup & then adding some bridge.

How does it sound vs Tele & Les paul middle position? The bridge pickup on those two has some body to it unlike the strat.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

It sounds good. I love the bridge pickup on a Strat, and pulling in some of the bridge pickup gives it some bite.

I resemble that remark.

My last five guitars have been Flying Vs and Guild Thunderbirds.

If my Tele had a vibrato it'd be jostling for No.1 position
