Absolute beaut! Love it!
Do be careful with that selector switch. I haven't seen another guitar with the same one and they're expensive to replace. When you take it apart you'll see, it's basically in a plastic housing that'll crack if you switch with too much vigour (i.e. when strumming mid-song and trying to switch on a down stroke).
Really, really nice example, though. These earlier ones look best without the serial number cluttering up the headstock!

That is good to know. I emailed Mike Lull about working on repairing the toggle and the pots. They do good work so it is probably a good place to bring it.simonhpieman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 11:57 amAbsolute beaut! Love it!

Oh yeah, side by side with a Squier one.

Lovely. Very few originals over here in the UK.

Re: NGD 1978 Fender Starcaster
I can't wait to get it up to 100%. Should be easy. I would love to find a pickguard for it, but I can't seem to find anyone who makes them for certain. Faction has templates for his version so I don't know if they match and the modern one attaches to the body instead of over the pickup ring like the vintage ones. Anyone have any ideas?

Modern player guard fits almost perfectly. The second bracket hole is a little lower though.

Looks like I can mod a large archtop pickguard bracket. I am going to make a custom tracing to get a new guard made that is more like the vintage ones. The modern one has too big of a cut where the neck pickup is.

Re: NGD 1978 Fender Starcaster
Am I wrong or are the two bodies different shapes? The bottom horn looks different

The squier body is smaller by about 2" overall.

Re: NGD 1978 Fender Starcaster
Congratulations- that’s a lovely Starcaster and is just so “right” in all the ways. Really cool and just so much more aesthetically/proportionally right than the reissues (which always seemed kinda squished to me).

Re: NGD 1978 Fender Starcaster
It looked fine initially until I compared it to the correct body shape. It looks squished to me now also. LOL

Re: NGD 1978 Fender Starcaster
Haha. Sorry. Some things can't be unseen. The vintage Starcaster just "works" so much better aesthetically from my (admittedly untrained) perspective.
(It's kind of like when you register the difference between Rickenbacker headstock shapes or the spacing with the three pickup Rickenbackers in the 60s vs. the (squished) later ones)
