If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

Re: Tracks that make you cry
gonna add another one to this list. so one of my all time favorite albums is in/casino/out - at the drive in and my favorite tracks are lopsided and hourglass. it's a real 1-2 punch having those 2 songs back to back. i found this version of jim ward doing hourglass stripped back and jesus christ did it make me tear up. the song i've loved since i was 13 shown in a whole new light.

Re: Tracks that make you cry
That's a really good one. That one can usually bring a tear to my eye.
Maxence Cyrin - Where Is My Mind
Powfu - Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head)
Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved
Shelby Merry - Gallows
Christina Perri - The Lonely
(This was my song during some very dark times)
John Williams - The Funeral Of Qui-Gon
Joel McNeely - Night Skies
Tomaso Albinoni - Adagio In G Minor
Shiny Toy Guns - Don't Cry Out
Actually a few from their first album...
Ramin Djawadi - Dr Ford
Gary Jules - Mad World
Just like Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt, just a beautiful cover.
Mazzy Star - Look On Down From The Bridge
(Yes, I originally found this one due to Rick And Morty)
Lin-Manuel Miranda/Hamilton Cast - Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story
Last track in the play, when Eliza starts talking about having enough time and then the orphanages. Hoo boy.
John Williams - You Are The Pan
This man always knows the right orchestrations and instruments to bring a tear to my eye.
Death Cab For Cutie - Codes And Keys
During some rough stuff in my life. Still does.
Sometimes there are songs that can bring a tear or actually full on make me cry for different reasons than purely sad. I've got a playlist on my phone called "heroic pride", which is the best way I can describe it. It usually comes from a movie or show where someone is sacrificing themselves or doing something amazing. The best example of this is the music from Doctor Who, during Eleven's/Matt Smith's regeneration scene:
Murray Gold - Never Tell Me The Rules

What Sarah Says - Death Cab for Cutie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ck-uuCJJBo)
Some other Death Cab songs have been mentioned but this one always wrecks me. Most of Julien Baker also hits pretty hard but Rejoice is the one that usually gets me teary eyed.

Thanks for posting this link! I didn't know Jim had a channel. I am loving the stripped down versions of the songs. Admittedly, I don't believe I know any At The Drive-In stuff, but I come from the Sparta side of things. I'd love to check out some At The Drive-In though now after hearing this.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 2:02 pmgonna add another one to this list. so one of my all time favorite albums is in/casino/out - at the drive in and my favorite tracks are lopsided and hourglass. it's a real 1-2 punch having those 2 songs back to back. i found this version of jim ward doing hourglass stripped back and jesus christ did it make me tear up. the song i've loved since i was 13 shown in a whole new light.

Re: Tracks that make you cry
This one caught me off guard...
Back in the '90s I bought a four disc box set called "Louis Armstrong: Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man 1923-1934". On disc four there is a song called "Stardust" that upon hearing, had me crying like a baby!
I was not into jazz and looking back, I can't remember why I bought this set. I only know it changed my world. You see, until that time I only knew him from some frankly smarmy hits like Hello Dolly, and What A Wonderful World.
I can't say why that particular track hits me that way. Sure the words are about the memories of a lost love, but that isn't it. It's what is coming out of that horn and the sense of overwhelming awe at his genius. I just didn't know. Maybe that's what made me sad. Except that I will still tear up every single time! How did he have such a big heart and such a gift for giving of it through musical notes??
Some years later when I watched Ken Burns documentary "Jazz", the series kicked off with (you guessed it), Armstrong's Stardust...SAME take of the three or so versions he cut that day which hit me so hard.

I wonder how much the lyrics have to do with Vern’s alcoholism. Hard to imagine them touring without him (but, at the same time, not). Regardless, this song hit me hard as a college student years ago for personal reasons, but there’s a whole other dimension to it now that Vern is gone. Hope they play it on tour. Such a good song.
