I’m going to go and check out the guitar today. For reference, it’s in a window

So many amazing close-up pics!
Hopefully, the Proto Jag-stang goes up for auction one day and we can finally see detailed pics.

Know these pics are not very good resolution, but thought there would be more evidence of the repair from the Dallas neck break.

The ones I took way back aren't nearly as nice. I think I got pics of one of his home made mustangs.

This is Earnie and me at the EMP. He signed the control plate that goes with my Strat pickguard signed by Kurt. Seemed appropriate to have him sign the inside of the tremolo plate. LOL

so here's something i wanna bring up and kinda figured i could bring it up here. i find it really funny that nirvana have now been written into the same classic rock cannon as bands like guns and roses or motley crew when they were basically trying to be the opposite of that kinda music. like if you told kurt that his band would be considered in the classic rock cannon where his guitars would be fetching for millions of dollars, i wonder how he'd feel.

What one wants to be seen as, and what one is seen as, are not correlated.

Kurt Cobain was well aware that his band had turned into everything he wanted/didn’t want*

Funny to hear Kurt scoff as he tells the story of someone trying to sell him Leadbelly's guitar for $500k during the MTV Unplugged taping.

Kurt was dead before the first vintage Strat fetched $5,000 probably, though, and also before famous people’s instruments were tacked with a crazy premium because of who owned it. That video of the Brian Jones VOX teardrop that Hard Rock Cafe bought for like $2,000 in the 90s is insane.

Also even though he says “$500,000” I’ve read that it was actually as little as $5,000 in real life. Kurt was never one to tell the truth in place of a good lie, though.

Also I’d disagree about Nirvana being pegged next to GnR or whatever. I mean they’re objectively ‘classic rock’ now… haven’t released music in 30 years. But I don’t notice similarities in how the bands are marketed or anything and think it comes down more to time than it does any kind of lumping in genre. They were both pop acts in their time so it makes sense. Though I’m sure he considered his contemporaries to be the Sonic Youths, Dinosaur Jrs, etc. as opposed to the hair metal chud mall bands

he bought it from Lloyd at Voltage! i bought my first great instrument, my '74 Jazz Bass from Lloyd, probably the same year ('91)!
what a great time and place to be in need of a cool used guitar. the notion of 'vintage' superiority was just making the rounds, but
there were four or five shops around that block that were selling great used Fenders at only a slight premium.

i thought i was a bit of a sucker for paying $600 for that Walnut/Maple BB&B beauty. nah, i was just a young cheapskate.
i miss those shops now, those guys were all pretty cool and let me play around a lot.

Yeah, I'm not sure if a Hondo II Les Paul + £150 will still get you a refinned '59 Jazzmaster body with a replacement 2001 Fender Affinity neck ;)

Those were definitely the days!!
