How loud can you rock a vintage Starcaster?

Post by 46346 » Sat Jan 15, 2022 1:01 am

hey gang, long time no posty!

my current semi--hollow is real buttery sounding with lively resonance until i get to rock trio volumes and it gets all howly.

was wondering if the Starcaster might fit the bill. i'm going for 'growl' from body resonance while using an overdrive or hot amp (maybe only 15 watts, but often 30+ watts 2x12). and i love the classic WRHB sound.

my Firemist Jazzblaster ™️ does the job for live sets, but i'm wondering if the Starcaster could carry it whilst giving more of a chaotic growl but not an all-consuming howl.

Ha! i would say louder than that, sook.

i actually recorded a building demolition once, we set up 24 channels at all different levels and mic positions, and not one of them peaked!
the world-renowned demo team screwed up a bit on this one, too. nobody was endangered from the collapse, but for some reason they had us all set up downwind from the building. we were caked in 70-year old hospital dust. we spent the next two days cleaning all our audio gear.
and i'm still hoping nothing nasty got inside our bodies.

how loud?
rock quartet stage volume at a club.

i did see Jonny Greenwood play one with Radiohead, but it was the Hollywood Bowl with lots of stage space and of course a well-honed sound check.

I've never had any trouble with the vintage Starcaster at probably-too-loud stage volumes in small/medium clubs (150-to-1K capacity) with a 4-piece rock band with another guitarist.
