I don't feel so bad now - thought I'd missed out on a potential birth year Jag. That said, I fear that ship has sailed for me now, what with vintage prices these days.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 11:57 pmNeck date is April 1964 so probably just before CBS started mixing things up.

It arrived literally as I was walking out the door to go to work so only had 5 minutes with it unplugged.
So far... wonderful.

Got home and had an hour or so with it. After 10mins I pulled the OG bridge off and put a Staytrem on - for obvious reasons - and my preferred set of 12-54 strings. Much better.
It's noticeably brighter than my '67 which is nice - I'd rather they didn't sound too similar anyway - and the neck is slightly slimmer but still a good thickness. I can't comment on the sound being particularly accurate as the bridge is a repro and the neck a rewind. The bridge pickup is very 'snarling' and raucous though...really drives my VibroChamp nicely.
Jon (Rexter) has done a fantastic job with the re-burst and it looks and feels really great in person.

I did a search before posting this… but my searching skills are probably to blame..
You posted about the 65 neck being slimmer than your other Jag?
I have a B&B 65 Jag and it has the most incredible neck of any Fender I have owned - including ‘64 / 71 Strats. I would have said that the 65 was a full C shape, where as I have medium C or D shaped Strat necks. Is this common to 65 offsets or was it just what ‘Bob’ managed on ‘that day’…?

It's still a good full C shape, just slightly smaller feeling. I just measured them and there's not much in it. At the 1st fret there's about 3/64" in depth and at the nut the '65 is 2/64" narrower. It's not a lot but it's there. Both are still way more comfortable than a modern C (which I've learned to hate).JagChat wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 6:50 pmI did a search before posting this… but my searching skills are probably to blame..

I used to like slimmer necks but my hands have changed as I've got older and I tend to hold my guitars more thumb-over than before. I don't think I'd like a regular MIJ neck these days.

My dilemma is that I play full scale length guitars all the time and as much as I love the look and feel of my Jag I don’t play it much because it takes so long to get reacquainted.
Perhaps I should trade it in for a Jazzmaster instead.. but it would have to be that same neck feel as the 65 in the hand.

I got to give this thing a proper outing tonight at band rehearsal. Holy crap this thing is a ripper... Sounded utterly perfect at band volumes.
Happy. Camper.
Although, side note, it certainly convinced me that the pickups on the 67 need to be removed and sent away for a thorough wax potting... Microphonic to almost an unusable level at higher volumes. Great at home, obviously, though a little Champ but the second I stomped a gain pedal it was calling all the dogs in a 3 mile radius

I can relate - I had a '68 and the pickups were not great and tinny - I rewound them. The '65 and '66 I had were fine.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 1:52 pmI got to give this thing a proper outing tonight at band rehearsal. Holy crap this thing is a ripper... The ones in the 67 sounded amazing - just too lively for a loud band setting.Marc wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 7:55 amI can relate - I had a '68 and the pickups were not great and tinny - I rewound them. Well this one is staying in the OSG family. Thank you to Johnny for a screamin' deal! Now I wait...
I'm thinking a comprehensive comparison of this, my AV65, and my Marr Jag. And Sparkle Motion for kicks. It must be done!
