What to do with broken acoustic?
My Tanglewood tw15ns acoustic met a terrible end a few years back getting trapped between the door & frame when I was redecorated. It’s still in one piece & playable. But the body is broken & cracked all over the back & sides.
How can I recycle it?
Because it still looks like a guitar from the front and makes a nice enough sound, I’ve not replaced it. But I deserve a nice acoustic, and it’s time.

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

anyone you could pass if off too?
i'm in a similar place and haven't gotten rid of mine in large part because i know it's going in a landfill as soon as i give it up, despite it still playing as it did and sounding more or less as if nothing ever happened to it.

No interest in repairing it?
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Technically? Yes.
It's not worth it.
I don't think there's much you can do with it. Put it up on Craigslist and let someone pick it up from the porch for whatever reason they would want it, maybe for the neck, maybe the top, maybe as a prop in a play, whatever.
As far as you are concerned there's no value to it.

Yeah, I wasn’t expecting this to go anywhere except landfill. That’s why I was wondering about recycling.Larry Mal wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 7:15 amTechnically? Yes.

For parts is a good idea. Got mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, spruce top, Grover tuners, bone nut. So not totally worthless to someone if I give it away.

And it's not like there aren't people that would want to put a new back and sides on it... I looked it up, it looks like a pretty good guitar overall.
Is there a luthiery school anywhere around you?

I suppose the extra tension might hasten the end, but if it were mine I’d put some Nashville tuning strings on it and use it to record with.

Whilst Nashville tuning would be fun, I’ve contacted a local luthier to see if he has any use for it. Great idea Larry, thanks!

Re: What to do with broken acoustic?
Sure- I mean, the thing still has value, just probably not to you, since paying to repair that would require a new back, sides, and all new bracing.sal paradise wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 9:30 amWhilst Nashville tuning would be fun, I’ve contacted a local luthier to see if he has any use for it. But it would be a shame to just throw it away as you say.
So onto more fun concepts, what is the next acoustic going to be?

Re: What to do with broken acoustic?
I’ve always wanted a J45, because the LA folk scene.
But that might be a stupid idea. Either way, it’s time to buy a quality guitar that plays beautifully. And a pickup would be handy for the option to gig. Any suggestions?

Re: What to do with broken acoustic?
I own a J-45:
It's a no-brainer all around great guitar and a legend for a reason.
I also have eight other Gibson acoustics at this point, a Guild D-40 that I just adore, I've owned a few Martins and some Taylors. I'll be happy to talk about any of this if it interests you.
I will recommend you consider the J-15:
