About to wire my lefty pots "backwards" and see if I get a useable tone control out of it. If this works, I'll see if I mind them rolling backwards, or if I want to track down reverse log pots.
I'm VERY interested to see what you find. Please let us know how things work after you put the pots in!
ok, so the tone knob seems to have a subtle effect through the range now - more pronounced at the very end of the range, but does roll off highs through the middle of the range.

Now the volume knob rolls off pretty fast, which I'm not sure I'm a fan of.

Once i get my WD pickguard here and installed, I'll test more thoroughly.
What I'm thinking I may end up doing is, I may track down a reveres log/taper pot for the tone, and wire the existing volume back the other way.
Thanks for the feedback! That's good information!

What would be interesting is to wire one up backwards and compare a reverse/C taper on a breadboard or something...

^ Vintage-spec Firebird pups are some of my favourite pickups. Those look killer in that guitar, too.

A Strat project for when I start gigging again. I didn't want to risk my 1982 Strat (even though it's 'only' a Squier it's an early Japanese one and I'm very attached to it), but this is a more early 60s spec compared to the '57 style JV.

I bought an Allparts neck, so have had to smooth all the fret ends, sand it all down and clear tinted with nitro. I fitted vintage slotted tuners that were pre-aged, but I buffed them up to more of a shine as they looked overdone to my mind.

Pickups are Fender '65 Pure Vintage and a 'light' mint green 'guard.

The body is an eBay one made in the UK. I routed out a space for the Eric Clapton mid boost that all my Fenders seem to have ended up with. I've sprayed the body 3 times now; first time it was too dark (Sonic Blue), second time I buffed through the edges showing the darker blue, so I stripped it back to bare wood. This time I've grain filled and shellac sanding sealed it, before spraying lightened Sonic Blue (just added Olympic white to it) for a faded effect.

Back at the clear coat stage again and I've already fitted the neck temporarily to my JV Strat so I could cut the nut and try it all out...it's a 1" deep neck so feels much like my '54 Tele replica and different to the original neck on the JV, so it's a nice change in looks, feel and sound.

Will post back when it's all completed into one guitar instead of two at present. ;D

This is also practice/preparation for refinishing my Player Jaguar from 3 tone poly to Candy Apple Red nitro. 8)

That's awesome! Where did you get the mid-boost? Is it controlled with the bottom tone pot?

Thanks, yes it's controlled by the bottom tone pot; the middle one is a master tone (500K and 0.022uF rather than the supplied TBX tone).

There are a number of places selling the mid boost kit in the UK. It has a proper Fender part number which is 005-7577-000 if that helps.

I also fitted on to my Telecaster and another one to my Jaguar (I used a Kurt Cobain plate to mount the mid boost knob and used the slide switch for a bypass).

This is my Tele (before I added the neck pickup):

One step closer to completion (and then I can start on the Jaguar Candy Apple Red re-spray 8) ).

Got another 3 coats of clear coat on today after a light sand down this morning to remove a few small bits of fluff from the finish (perils of spraying in my dusty garage :fp: ). Think it's turning out pretty decent, with a nice gloss from the gun already, though I will wet sand and buff it to get it smooth before assembling it.

I fitted the neck to my old 1982 JV Squier Strat, so I could cut the nut, drill for the string tree and of course to have a play with it...feels really full and all the fret smoothing, fingerboard rolling and general prep work to spray it in tinted nitro has paid off as it's lovely to play.

This blacked out Flying VI
White oak body, red oak neck, Richlite fretboard. 30.3" scale length. It'll be getting two of those Wilkinson P90 humbucker things, concentric volume and tone for each pickup, and coil splitting switches

I love Richlite, super glassy feeling underhand, looks like ebony but doesn't hurt the planet as much either.

Never understood why people on TGP etc are such dinosaurs about the stuff.

Fun and games with my new 3D printer... :-/ ;)

Incidentally, does anyone know where I might find a Jaguar mounting screw that's 5mm or so longer than standard?

Oh, this looks promising! Is that a mini humbucker of sorts under that beautiful cover?
