Re: NGD Bilt Relevator
That darn piece of wood re-split. Now I am re-clamping with glue and the screw in so hopefully this time will be good.

If this doesn't work, I will probably try to drill out the hole and dowel it. It isn't like this part needs to be super strong, but I don't want the wood to be split either.

Re: NGD Bilt Relevator
Oh and I attached new grounds and leads for the new pickups and screwed the upper plate down. The lower plate will get screwed down once I install the new pure tone jack. I like how firm those grab so I put them in my own builds typically.

Re: NGD Bilt Relevator
Doesn't look any different, but I got the new pure tone jack installed. I love how secure these hold a cable.
I sent the aluminum guard to BilT. They are going to route it so I can use a normal sized humbucker.
I ordered a set of Revel Midnight Rider PAF's for it. The covers will either be raw or brushed to better match the polished steel parts and mastery pieces. Here is a link and it has sound examples. I have a set of Jazzmaster PAF's that he made me that I like so I wanted to give his humbuckers a try as well.

The new knobs should arrive Saturday.

Black tele knobs came and look really cool. \

FYI if your set screw knobs bottom out on the guard or plate and drag when you turn them, just take a business card and cut a hole big enough to fit the pot shaft and nut with a slit out to an edge. That way you can put the card over the pot for when you install the knob, and slide it out to the side once the knob it mounted. This gives it a small gap under the knob so it doesn't drag and also keeps it parallel with the mounting surface.

Pickups are in. I got a pair of Duncan Zebra's. Distortion in the bridge and Jazz in the neck.

Re: NGD Bilt Relevator
All done! Sounds awesome! The Distortion bridge is bright, but not shrill. The Jazz neck pickup has a nice full warm tone without being muddy.

Re: NGD Bilt Relevator
Wow, it really looks and sounds great.
I don't know what was a more controversial move, PAFs in a Relevator or putting the zebras in with both white coils toward the bridge
I love DeArmonds and TV Jones, but those Duncans really suit the guitar more than I'd have presumed.
I'm slowly overcoming my aversion to Gibson pickup designs in offsets. I blame firebirds for being the gateway drug.

Re: NGD Bilt Relevator
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Dimarzio had a trademark on zebra humbuckers? perhaps it lapsed or something.

Re: NGD Bilt Relevator
Nope, their thing is the double cream.
Fun fact, if you get a shop floor custom from Duncan they let you pick bobbin colors even if you have a cover . . .
. . . and because it's covered, it's not being sold as double cream . . .
. . . nobody tell Larry DiMarzio, he'll throw a fit.

Re: NGD Bilt Relevator
LOL. You can get all white Duncans. I think you just can get all cream ones since that seems to be a Dimarzio thing.
