2004-2006 CIJ Jaguar 66 Reissue pot help?

Post by bogginhead » Wed Feb 24, 2021 4:45 pm

Hey guys. I'll be receiving my new Jag soon, and am trying to get everything needed together so I can upgrade the electronics / swap out the pickups when it arrives. Can anyone tell me which size pot bushing I'll need for 205k CTS pots (1/4, 1/8, 3/8)? I've looked everywhere, and cannot find a definitive answer. Also, since I'll be going from the 1 meg pots to 250k pots, will I need to swap out anything as far as the rhythm circuit goes pot or capacitor-wise? Just trying to make sure on everything. I appreciate it!!!

Well I'm stumped.

What's a 'pot bushing'?

The pots affix directly to the control plate with a washer and slim hex nut fastened down on the threaded section of the pot, the same as any other guitar.

The threaded bit that the nut goes on? Not sure what size, but I remember taking a drill to my control plate when I changed pots on my CIJ a few years ago.

Well, I'll have my Jag back from my tech tomorrow sometime. New pickups (Q Pickups SD Quarter Pounder Jaguar-spec'd single coils), new CTS pots for the lead circuit, full red tortoiseshell pick guard / control plates, plates; no chrome left anywhere on the body lol), new Tusq XL nut, shims in neck, and thankfully the Jag already came with a Mastery bridge installed (which leaves me with a genuine Fender Updated Mustang bridge and MIJ / CIJ bushings if anyone is interested or needing one).

There was one weird thing, though. He said that he first wouldn't be able to change the rhythm circuit pots to the new mini-pots I'd purchased for the upgrade; he said the pot shafts were too small and that the dials wouldn't fit the shafts and that the PIO cap I'd bought was too big to fit. But later, he emailed me and told me that he'd got it all working together; he said:

"They work fine, but when they turn it’s not even because of the smaller shaft of the new pots. You’ll see what I mean. There really is not much quality difference if any between the new ones and the old ones. You make the call when you come get it".

Any idea what he could mean? Sounds strange to me, but I'm very much looking forward to finally getting to play it tomorrow. And this tech does fantastic work, so I'm sure I'll be satisfied with the upgrades as well.

Maybe the knob isn't centered on the pot shaft if the shaft is 6mm and the knobs are for 1/4"? It makes it look like the knobs sort of wobble when you turn them because they are off center with a smaller shaft.

That's exactly what's happening, he needs the right size roller wheels! They are available. The wheels on my CV jaguar has different size holes then the replacements that I got from 920D with the replacement pots they sold me.
