I have the opportunity to trade Jazzmaster body's with someone. He has a MIJ and I have a MIM. Will the hardware be interchangeable? I know the pickguard screw placement is slightly different. How about the tremolo? Neck?
His has a nicer colour btw. That is why I'm considering the trade.
Are MIM and MIJ body's interchangeable?

Re: Are MIM and MIJ body's interchangeable?
There are slight differances between the MIJ/CIJ and the MIM/MIA bodies.
This has to do with the metric vs. imperial thing.
For instance the pu caveties are placed/routed slightly different, just a little but noticeble.
Neck pockets are about the same, so necks are mostly interchangeble, so make sure your neck fits the MIM body and the screw holes line up.
If you can, perhaps try to swap the pickguards as well, as it will save both parties some troubles.
For the rest, most parts should be interchangble.

Thanks! Does the different pickup routing make a difference in pickguards or is it just the screw placement?ohm-men wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 1:39 pmThere are slight differances between the MIJ/CIJ and the MIM/MIA bodies.

MIJ pickguards are definitely their own thing.Guppy wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 2:18 pmThanks! I tend to find MIJ necks are a bit wider at the heel.

Yeah, I have a MIJ Jazzmaster body and the neck pocket is definitely wider than other fenders. Both Warmoth and Musikraft necks had big gaps on it. I recently got a Japanese neck that fit perfectly. MIJ/CIJ definitely have different pickguards as well. You can convert them by drilling a few holes and widening the bridge holes.
