Does the preamp work kinda like a master master volume?Dr Tony Balls wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 12:54 pmJust wrapped up this custom jam. DOD 210 preamp (always on) into a DOD 250 overdrive.

Re: What's on your workbench right now?
The new pickguard for my squier strat arrived, I'm quite happy with the cheap printed red tort.
Wanted to try if a tele bridge pickup I had in my parts box would fit : just had to drill the mounting holes, otherwise it's perfect ! I just hope the strings won't catch under the bobbin, but we'll see about that later.

HA....maybe?. The "preamp" control is a master volume on the 210 boost, but that's before the overdrive in the chain. So the "level" control is a master volume when the over drive is on, but the "preamp" is effectively the volume control when the overdrive is off.

First sunburst attempt after 3 loooong years:
Bass will probably do...but Lead I'll need to wash down and start over.
I'm sad...used to be pretty good in this.

Re: What's on your workbench right now?
Apparently my wife's cousin's 9-10 year old son is getting interested in guitars. I was asked if I could make a small guitar with a shorter neck for him (he and his dad are both pretty small people). Well, since I just so happened to already be making three 22.5" necks, it was easy to say yes. So I'm making him a super short scale Mustang bodied guitar. I'm using parts I have on hand as much as possible, while my mother-in-law will cover the few parts/materials I have had to buy (<$100) and his parents will buy the amp and accessories.
I grabbed a can of Molotow Belton in his favorite color: Neon Green. The neck (the right most of the shorties on my previous post) is birdseye maple/rosewood and I gave it a thin-ish C carve and thinned the nut down to an 'A' width. I'm using a bridge from an Affinity Jazzmaster, tuners from a Player Strat, 1-ply white guard, and a pair of Rose pickups from my box. The body is ready for paint, I'm just waiting on the right weather to start spraying.
Should look close to this when I'm done:

That is an awesome guitar! I LOVE the color!!! Curious to see how that one turns out. As a short dude, I'm interested in seeing what a 22.5" scale guitarj feels like.ThePearDream wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 7:32 amApparently my wife's cousin's 9-10 year old son is getting interested in guitars. Re: What's on your workbench right now?
For my own project I'm working on, I've got a quick question for my other wiring dudes/dudettes! I'm still working on my pickup tester box, and I want to put a bass-cut pot in there, and it seems like both Leo's G&L version and Reverend's version both have the bass cut pot placed before volume pot (between the pickup selector and volume pot). Would I be able to place it there on its own (without volume or tone pots), or does it need to be used in conjunction with those two?

Re: What's on your workbench right now?
Should work by itself, so no real need to have the other parts there as such. At least with active gain stages like in guitar pedals and amps there's a sound design aspect to the order of filters, but not really sure how much of an impact that'd have in passive systems. In any case the PTB wirings have the bass pot first and volume last.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 9:11 amFor my own project I'm working on, I've got a quick question for my other wiring dudes/dudettes! I recall someone writing that the values of the pots in the PTB system somehow are significant for total load/impedence, but not sure if that's true or significant enough to matter. Might be pickup-related in any case...

Re: What's on your workbench right now?
Cool! Thanks for the reply! With the way I'm designing this circuit, I'll be able to drop in an outside capacitor, and be able to change the pot sizes with a rotary switch, so I can find exactly what will work best before committing to solder!bodhi wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 9:36 amShould work by itself, so no real need to have the other parts there as such. Re: What's on your workbench right now?
this had a bad crack from the neck pocket to the neck pickup rout but it played still played great.. glued that up and refinished it.
i was whatever about the white plastic.. i'm also whatever about the black.. but I'm really liking the finish.. its just some matte blue/grey rattle can but i prepped it good and it came out nice and contrasts the gold pickguard nice i think

I'm in the middle of painting two bodies. One is a double bound alder Tele style body that I'm painting in charcoal gray lacquer. The other is a Squier Bullet Mustang body I'm painting with cheapo Rustoleum desert rose gold metallic. Up next are the clear coats!
