Mahogany Mustang Build

Post by Beebe » Sat Mar 27, 2021 2:09 pm

I just finished this build for a client and wanted to share. I think I might have to build a similar one in TV yellow for myself. Here are some specs and pics:

Warmoth Mahogany Body
Chocolate hard wax oil finish on body
Warmoth pickguard
Warmoth Mustang Bridge
All Parts JGRO neck w 7.5" radius
Pure hard wax oil on neck
Bone nut hand made for size 11 strings
Polished Aluminum Faction control plate
Polished Aluminum Faction hardtail plate
Teflon shrink tube to stabilize bridge posts
Vintage aged hum canceling pickups:
Kinman Punk-tang AVn-59b in bridge pickup
Kinman Punk-tang AVn-62 neck pickup
Gotoh Vintage style staggered tuners
StewMac CTS 250k pots
Fender pure vintage 1965 Jaguar knobs

I still can't get the image function to work. Here are some links:

I forgot to say the switches are wired for simple on/off for each pickup.

And I'm having a hard time capturing the finish in a photo. In person it reads as more dark brown with less contrast in the grain. Maybe closer to this:

Wow, that looks really nice. I like the black pickguard, matches the Mahogany body quiet well.
The guitar has cool vibe going! I'm especially fond of your bridge/string set up. :-*

How do you like the sound of Mahogany with the single coils? I'm curious about it as I have some old Mahogany stashed away for a future build.
But I'm a bit afraid it will sound to trebly and the body might be too heavy for my taste and back.

I love Mahogany with single or any coils. My impression of Mahogany is the opposite. It will help tame the treble, and I find it lighter than many other woods... at least lighter than the Ash I've used in the past (wasn't swamp ash).
