I remember this incarnation. Looks like a garage band wonder axe.

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
I had an older Chinese 50s Squier Classic Vibe and it was a great guitar. Never should have let it go. I almost bought one of the new Indonesian ones but the lake placid blue one sold before I got to the store, so I passed. The ones I played in the shop were very nice. I found the contours and edges of the classic vibe smoother and more comfortable than my other strats.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Sat Mar 06, 2021 2:13 pmI think I finally want another Stratocaster. It has been years. Are the current Squier Classic Vibe models any good?

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
I owned a few Strats in my early guitar playing. Like in Middle/early high school. Before I really understood anything about guitars. but I remember liking them. Especially the one with all single coils over the one I had with an HSS setup. Although at the time I didn't even realize there was a difference between either set up, really. I just liked it better, and played it without thinking about it too hard.
In later years I have owned 3 or 4, mainly because they were cheap and I would buy them to flip them. Or buy cheap basket cases, fix them up, and then flip them. And every time I enjoyed having one around for the short time I had it, but they all suffered from the same issues I have with just about any off-the-rack guitar, and that is I didn't enjoy playing the necks long enough to keep one around.
So finally I decided I needed to parts-caster one up this year and I am in complete love with it! the balance of playing it while standing, the placement of the first position frets due to the the upper horn pulling the neck in, the light weight, the middle pickup, the cheap parts! This down doesn't/didn't have a down side. With a total cost of about $250 I could believe how nice of a guitar I was able to build and with a lot less effort and cost than a typical guitar build.
Need decent pickups and hardware for low costs? There is literally not a type of guitar which has more retally available aftermarket parts than a Strat. Plus the cheap aftermarket body I got was so inexpensive ($40) and light. Pretty much the only part close to being expensive was the Allparts neck I bought. But even that was only about $120.

I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"

Shell pink + mint guard looks so good. Great choices there.

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
well that didn't last very long. I'm back in the strat game baby! scored a good deal on a second hand Mexican listing with some minor problems. there's a weird defect to the finish with a streak that shows up in certain light under the poly. I don't bother me that much.
I gotta say there's something about the Stratocaster that makes it such an awesome guitar. especially visually. It's just such a cool design and you really have to appreciate it in the context of when it came out. 1955(?) what a wild design at the time. It must have really blown people's minds with the contours and the double cutaway shape. It's still a futuristic looking guitar in my opinion yet at the same time it looks old fashioned and classic.

Anyone else just hate the knob position on a strat? I hit the volume knob ALL THE TIME. Bug or feature? Never have that problem on my JM or Jag

yup i hate it too. i get around it by sticking a rubber seal from a grolsch beer bottle under the knob. I that way i can hit the knob as much as i want and it won't cause it to turn on accident. You can still turn it to change the volume, it's just a lot more stiff.

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
I've read many times on the Internet people hating the volume pot location on a strat, I was curious about it when I got mine but it seems like i pick between the neck and middle pickups if I'm strumming in big gestures, if my right hand is by the bridge it's usually for palm muting/anchoring the back of the hand on the bridge, so no risk of moving the pot right here !

Blaze isn't convinced, mostly because her nap was interrupted by me slightly moving the guitar stand :

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
I have been eyeing sherwood green strat for a while. Found this one, but with my luck it will be gone by the time I decide to buy it:

Holding off on making any 1k+ purchases until after I file my taxes.
EDIT: On second thought, I'm going to wait until these start shipping from CME:

Re: all of the sudden i love strats
having given my sunburst Squier JV to my daughter for her 18th, I discovered I'm not that selfless, and I went for Ed's (tribi9's) white one in the classifieds. He did me a great deal and now I just have to survive the elements while I sit waiting by the mailbox. For up to three months. AAARGH.

Did both of you do these yourselves? Ive never used a router in my life but would love to do this to my Strat. How rough of a go was it?
