I love the mattson 2 but their newer stuff doesn't do much for me, I'm not into their psychedelic guitar sound. I still buy it and listen to it, but not as much as Ray Barbee Meets... or the first EP or Feeling Hands. He needs to drop the Strat and go back to his Jaguar and 335.whitewatersky wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 4:01 amMattson 2 have some awesome guitar sounds like this goin’ on !antisymmetric wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2015 9:18 pmThat's really nice (+ reinforces my wish for a baritone )

Not entirely Satie-like, but cool
Is there a guitar equivalent of Erik Satie ?

^ yeah, I can't really fall in love with the vocals and the current songwriting style....
good on 'em for doing whatever they feel like and avoiding re-hashing, but it's a drag that I can't get psyched to buy the newer stuff.
those old releases are amazing. did you see the live vid I took of them a few years back ? they were great live. nice fellas to boot

Yeah, I can’t count the number of times I saw them live when I lived in San Diego. They were always super nice, too.

A bit of sychronicity going on here
My Satie cd has reached the top of the listening pile again and is in my car CD player right now.
Am a fan of the Mattson2.
Thanks for posting the links

Andy Summers has a 1989 solo record called Mysterious Barricades. The album was dedicated to Satie, and the music was very Satie-esque. In addition to his work with The Police, et al, Andy has a (masters?) degree in classical guitar

Completely off topic, but I'd not heard of this mob before, and I just found out they have an EP that's a condensed version of A Love Supreme, so that's my afternoon listening sorted.whitewatersky wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 4:01 am

You might like their Agar album, too. Or Chaz Bundick meets the Mattson 2's Star Stuff, but then you start getting into vocals.whitewatersky wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 12:37 amI really dig this Love Supreme rendition. Grabbed it on vinyl. It’s a fun listen

The Jacques Loussier version is interesting.
Will be investigating this.
