Damn, that’s really nice, and all for a very nice price (and your time and elbow grease). Definitely worth the time and patience.
I got a good set for free, but that was just luck. It’s amazing that you’re finding great parts of all the same brand, I think that’s going to be a really great kit when you’re done.

Re: sleazy's budget drum kit build.
so, update. i've now had a chance to play this. just jamming with a friend. the snare can cut through her very heavy mid/treble guitar. the hihats sound pretty trashy but in a kinda good way. the floor tom is very lively and ive stuck some moon gel on them. i'm still not sure if i like the sound of the head on the bottom or not. the kick is very aggressive when you play hard but can really calm down when you play with a softer beater or play lighter. the crash is pretty good. if you've ever heard the cough - the black eyes. it's kinda that sound.

update. i noticed the crash is in the size range for a ride so i tried using it as a ride and borrowed a pretty small crash from my friend and it really worked much better IMHO. i'm still not super hooked on the sound of it but it works better with a nice small crash

with big crashes, you can try “tuning” them with a bit of gaff tape on the underside, projecting out from the bell - can tame the wash of a thinner cymbal and result in a nice, somewhat quiet and low pitched ride.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 5:34 amupdate. i noticed the crash is in the size range for a ride so i tried using it as a ride and borrowed a pretty small crash from my friend and it really worked much better IMHO. i'm still not super hooked on the sound of it but it works better with a nice small crash
also, sticks make a difference! erskine ride sticks are great for bringing out the attack without activating the wash.

Re: sleazy's budget drum kit build.
so here's my kit. it's back in my flat for a few weeks. figured i'd post it here. it's going back to my friends place but it's changed since last post.
so we still got the huge floor tom, the really shallow 22" kick. we now got the 12" tom on there. still the same COB premier snare. the hihats are a solar set which sound super cheap in a good way (i am using the bottom from the old hihats because it kinda sounds a bit nicer) the zildjian 18" medium ride with the crack and a solar 20" ride which is super dark.
