Wanna hear my music?
So....
I never do this, but thought I'd share a new song I'm working on and get your feedback. I normally tend to overfill the space, and am consciously trying to leave more negative space to let things breathe a little more.
I'm recording everything in my bedroom studio, using Logic. The guitars are straight in, the bass in recorded out of a line out I had installed into my SFDR (although, the signal has a fair amount of buzz in it), and the vocals were recorded on an SM57 with a paint roller tube over the top (extra fine, for the smoothest of t0nz).
Edit: updated track is on pg4, new new song is on pg5

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

I think it's quite good man! Love the overall vibe, the vocal melody and the very warm and analog synth sound! Guitars sound great too . I think you could probably "explode" more towards the end. And I'm not digging the click-like sound around 1'25.
Very nice sir!

Nice man, I really liked that. Your voice reminds me a lot of Elliott Smith. I especially love that last chord you hit on the guitar

Re: Wanna hear my new song?
Wow, thanks guys!
The 'analog keyboard' sound Axolotl mentioned is actually my Rhodes 73 Mk I running through my Germanium 4 and Memory Boy. No other effects were used IIRC.
Anyway, I really do appreciate your kind words and input. I never really allow myself/give anyone the opportunity the chance for anyone to hear my music, so I find this incredibly humbling and nerve racking. I normally keep these things close to my chest, holed up in a computer in my little studio.
My above-mentioned friend has been yelling at me for years to get off my ass and do something about it.
The guitar is my 'new' '66 JM I bought from Jaguar018, with the original pickups. The thing is just amazing, I can hardly put it down. The strummed guitar in the end is actually my Telecaster plugged directly in, pretty raw. I don't think I did too much to its signal, just hit record and left it.StevenO wrote:Wow, I love this. Sparklehorse and Elliott Smith are both huge idols of mine, so those are massive compliments! I emailed this to a friend of mine and he said it sounded like Radiohead and Beck covering "Good Vibrations"...imagine the smile on my face reading that.my bloody television wrote:Nice man, I really liked that. Great song! Love it.
The recording sounds very high quality, and I really like the stereo image you've created with the vocals.

It's definitely got a Radiohead "All I need" aspect going on, which I like. I also heard a bit of Caribou in there (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4BuY-E_Ogk4), maybe some subtle flaming lips, Steve Burns too. I like it!

Re: Wanna hear my new song?
All of this feedback is actually making me want to listen to it.
I'll be sure to check it out the first chance I get.
