Interesting. I didn't realize that a "First Annual Report" existed. I am only familiar with "Second Annual Report" which is my favourite Throbbing Gristle album followed closely by Heathen Earth and 20 Jazz Funk Greats...
I'm listening to JD's "Les Bains Douches" Paris 12/18/79 right now.

Oh yeah!

Looks like I'll have to fire up Copenhagen today.

I keep listening to "No Promises", over and over, even though I'm done mixing it.  I think it might have my favorite bit of guitar that I've done so far.

How is that Andrew Hill album - is this the normal hard bop/slightly avant session stuff or is it his more adventurous arrangements with vocals mixed into a normal hard bop tune?

I LOVE Lift Every Voice - classic!

From what I've read, the joke was that they didn't really release the 1st report before the 2nd...  They paid to have it pressed at the time, but couldn't afford to have many copies done, so they just did a few and gave it to friends. Then, they went on later and made the 2nd annual report which was widely released. Then all the people who  bought it thought, "this is the 2nd report, there is surely a first!.. ", but it wasn't to be found  :)  I don't know when they actually released it on CD (or a real widespread release I guess).

Today, I had the Kills No Wow playing. I LOVE that record!

Grass Roots is kind of odd for Andrew Hill in that it has a groove, soul jazz sort of feel with interesting layers of arrangements. Plus a bit of the hard bop/avant thing thrown in. Highly recommended. It may be out of print as it was a Connoisseur Series disc that came out in 2001 but I'm not sure.
