This Gretch looks like a killer to me.
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Re: Recommend a Lap Steel
reading some of the reviews on musiciansfriend and zzzounds or whatever, the Gretsch gets some low marks for QC - I think I will probably either go with a Chandler:

or a Morrell:

lap steels are one of the last affordable vintage guitar things around...so I say go vintage! I have a 50's Kay lap steel that sounds great; got it for less than the new Gretsch lap steel goes for.

...you can still get those old fender lap steels for reasonable prices(relative to other vintage fenders) and they have blackguard pickups on them(less the backplate).sonik wrote: lap steels are one of the last affordable vintage guitar things around...so I say go vintage! Re: Recommend a Lap Steel
OK... kick my ass for a man, but:
I found a Fender pedal steel in a flea market (single neck) with klusons, tele knobs, and 2 duo-sonic pickups... complete with tweed case... for $125 and didn't buy it. And I knew better at the time too, its not like I didn't realize. I offered $75 and she wouldn't take it. I went back the next week and it wasn't there.
And it had an old univox ss amp with it too....

Re: Recommend a Lap Steel
I was about to buy one of those for about fifteen years ago (a guitarshop on Götgatan, Stockholm - the best guitarshopping street in the world in the early nineties IMO) - I remember the claw pup and the sunburst. They wanted about $500, wich was the reason i didn't buy it then - and that price would have the opposite effect today, I guess )

Re: Recommend a Lap Steel
If I had time to wait around for a good deal on a vintage Supro to pop up I totally would, but I'd like to give this as a mid-december bday present or xmas present, so I think I'm going to get a new one...
