Re: Mascis guitars
Dug this up from an old guitar magazine, a walk through of some of J's guitars from the late 90's. I saw some of these in this pic, good if anyone wants to get a close up on some of them. There is a bit of his rack at the time in there as well.
Sorry for the crappy pics, I don't have a scanner.

I have that same mag, I allways wondered if he just told them they were Jaguars to see if they would print it.Arthon wrote:Lol... see the bottom of the first pic... Fender Jaguars... Even guitar magazine don't know what offset are,

Re: Mascis guitars
I had that magazine too! That pic of the 'Jaguars' really made me start paying attention to them.
Been looking for better pics or scans from this mag for years now. Love it! Thank you!
Also love the P90'd Gibsons there. J has said he used P90 Gibsons a lot on record for rhythm work. (I think that was more recently though).

Re: Mascis guitars
If I think of it this week, i'll bring the mag to work and do a proper scan of the whole article, write up and all.
The mag not only thought that his Jazzmasters were Jaguars, but they also got his Tele and Esquire confused.

Re: Mascis guitars
yes, wasn't it around "farm" release when he said he uses mostly p90s for rhythm and his best tele ('58?) for leads when recording. he also doesn't use marshalls in the studio, but an ac15 and a tweed.kosmonautmayhem wrote:I had that magazine too! Re: Mascis guitars
Does he actually use the JM's on his recordings? A buddy of mine said he read an article where he stated that he mostly used a tele on recordings and JM's for live use. Kind of ruined the mystique of his guitar tones on the records for me for some reason!!!

Re: Mascis guitars
Not all of them, I think it's a recent thing. You can find tons of JM tones all over.

Re: Mascis guitars
I was also kind of dissapointed to read that he doesn't use JMs in the studio that much anymore. he also said in one interview that he doesn't even use his big muff on recordings anymore. other fuzz pedals, yes, but not his big muff (maybe that was the kit rae interview).
but it seems to be a new thing like kosmonautmayhem said.

Re: Mascis guitars
Doesn't bother me too much personally, I still enjoy their newer music as much as ever.
Cheers
