1970 Guild M75 Bluesbird + 1965 Ampeg Reverberocket!
Write-up from another forum:
I finally pulled the trigger on a 1970 M-75 Bluesbird. This particular example is fully hollow, and has the rare-in-this-format HB1s.
So far I’m loving! Tone is excellent, despite the thunky sounding flatwounds currently on the guitar. The HB1s are actually much brighter than I expected, sounding very close to the earlier 1970 M-75 I demo’d against.
Feel-wise the instrument is broken-in but not abused. The neck is narrow but not overly thin at either end. Frets are the glorious flatish frets you see on most 70s guitars.
I did make a couple adjustments upon receipt...
The neck angle is extremely low, which means it’s easy to bottom out the adjustment screws on the stock rosewood (?) bridge. Anyway, was very difficult to get slinky action with the original, especially with flats. Just a call out here for anyone exploring these, you may want to think about a different bridge if you’re into lowish action.
To keep things “period correct” and perhaps stay in the vein of a mod that might have happened 40 years ago, I tracked down an early 70s Muller bridge, which dropped right into the place. Still need to adjust the intonation, but works great! Slightly brighter unplugged tone, but action was immediately better given the lower profile compared to the stock bridge.
Yes please. I will take all of that. Jesus, that's a cornucopia of gorgeousness and tone.
Thanks man, it’s a great combination! These Guilds really do have a certain magic to them. This one in particular just “breathes” really nicely - you can just feel the notes hanging in the guitar as it rings.
It’s also hollow, so with some clever positioning, you can induce some very usable feedback that sounds awesome when you’re playing slightly gritty with some time-based effects or reverb. Highly highly highly recommend these if you ever stumble across one!

This thread got me GASsing for a model, that I've always wanted.
Single cut Guild Starfire III with DeArmond single coils. Hard to find one, as always.

Came to post mine as I can't remember ever posting here before, so here's some fuel for your GAS - my '62 Starfire III.

Beautiful!!
Just like the one I almost traded for my Ultrasonic. It was for sale for ages at a decent price due to a repaired hole in the top.
I still wonder what could've been from time to time.

My Silvertone 1446. Changed out the tuners for Grover repros, added an aluminum Compton bridge, strap locks, and I shaved down the stopper on the Bigsby so I get 360º arm spinning action. Bought it for $100 from one of my friends. It was his uncle's, but my buddy was more into his Ibanez than a full hollowbody. He said I'd use it more so he gave me a sweetheart deal.
This guitar has the best pickups in the world. Clear, crisp and never muddy, even on the neck pickup. Every guitar should come with these pickups.

most of the collection (minus basses). The hollowbodies in the pics; 60s Fender Coronado XII, 63 Guild Starfire, '65 Gretsch Single Anniversary w/. a few mods (nonstandard pickguard), '78 Gibson ES345 (on loan). lower pic; 68 Gibson ES160, Hofner Congress (which I guess counts, as they sometimes has a pickup).
Also have just picked up one of the Guild Starfire bass reissues, is a monster.

This is my current grail guitar. I played one at a GC and they wanted $2,100, which I now know isn't that bad a price, but they don't really haggle anymore and the thing had some moderate condition problems. I would love to snag one for $1700-$2000.
Those DeArmands are pure fire. The whole guitar is light as a feather and feels so alive. That and a '60 ES-330 were the best guitars I've ever played. I wish I wasn't poor, because I would have bought both if I knew I'd have a cushion afterwards.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

I hear you 100%, it's my grail guitar as well
bought it as a 25th birthday present for myself, also from GC but it was tagged at $2299 and almost $2500 after tax. A lot of money but worth it as it was a one owner guitar prior to being sold to GC. You're right though, it's stupid light and the pickups are probably my favorite pickups (just ahead of jazzmaster pickups). Best guitar I've ever owned. To be fair man, like 5 years ago you could pick these up for $1500. I saw a listing for a black one for $1400 not too long ago, thing got snapped up almost immediately. I really wish the prices weren't going up so much, the custom color Guilds are starting to break the $3k range, total bummer.
And yeah, a good es-330/casino is next on my list. Most resonant guitar I've ever picked up was a 60's 330. The Guild satisfied the GAS for a while but 330s/casinos have caught my eye again recently. I want a good one but prices are also waaay up there for 330s these days.

Perfection.
A father of an old friend has an identical one and it always sounded and played so well. I haven't seen it in years, but I've had GAS for that model and those pickups ever since.
