Which coily cable?
I'm a fan of coily cables and after looking through the site it seems the two that come up the most are either the Vox (about $35) or the Bullet (about $45). Anyone have experience with both? Which one did you prefer and why? Any other makes I should be considering instead?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Only have experience of the Bullet, but I can recommend it on the grounds of it being seriously heavy-duty compared to the kind of curly cables I grew up with.

Re: Which coily cable?
lava's coil cables are also great, but quite expensive: http://www.lavacable.com/retrocoil2.htm.
i have both a bullet and a vox and i prefer the vox. the bullet has the best quality, but the coil is larger which i don't really like.
one thing to keep in mind is how you wear your cable. if you have it behind the strap you'll need a cable where the straight bit is long enough for that, and if you just let it hang from the jack it looks better if the straight bit is shorter. the vox has quite a short straight bit and the one on the bullet is quite long. i can measure them if you'd like.
oh, and stay away from the fender ones! they're a bit thin and don't keep their curly shape very well.

I foolishly bought one couple of weeks back and within 2 days it was crackling whenever the cable moved, every Fender cable I've owned has been terrible.

Re: Which coily cable?
Thanks for the advice guys! The lava cables looks great and the colors are pretty cool but I think that's a little more than I wanted to spend right now.
I'll be using the cable for playing at home so I'd most likely have the cable hanging from the jack. That is something I didn't consider so thanks for the heads up!
It sounds like the Vox is my best bet until playing out becomes an option then I may consider a bullet or lava.
I'll also make sure to avoid Fender's cables.
Thanks!

I bought a Vox coily cable a couple of weeks back and I love it. It seems pretty heavy duty so far.

I did, too and it seems beyond heavy duty. Two weeks in and it seems to doing fine. Compared to what I've used in the past it's a beast.the_other_Adam wrote:I bought a Vox coily cable a couple of weeks back and I love it. It seems pretty heavy duty so far.
I like coiled cables because I need something that will stay up off the floor if I'm playing in front of the computer (so I don't roll my chair over it). The Vox is almost too heavy to do that - very weighty. Seems to be doing the job, though. Even if it sags to the floor, it's too big to roll over.
Sounds pretty good, too.

Have had mine for almost a year now. Its my main cable.....I use it all the time and have had no issues. Got sick of figuring out which black cable on the floor was for my guitar!the_other_Adam wrote:I bought a Vox coily cable a couple of weeks back and I love it. It seems pretty heavy duty so far.

Have been using a Vox one for 2+ years now. It's has been great so far - just avoid stepping on it
We got people playing stringed instruments! It's the end of days.

Re: Which coily cable?
Standard Fender coils don't keep their shape well, but the premium ones are a lot heavier duty, to the point where i actually find them a bit too weighty! They do keep their shape though.dnv wrote: oh, and stay away from the fender ones! they're a bit thin and don't keep their curly shape very well.

The Fenders are OK, I have one, but the Lava is the cable to get. It's a few bucks more with a lifetime warranty. I've been really happy with Lava cables and would be surprised if I ever need the warranty.

Re: Which coily cable?
I really like the vox-in-socks cables. They last and they have that nice right angle connection that's wonderful for jazz/jag's. A couple of things you should consider though is if you are swapping guitars around a lot (especially strats) then the bulky right angle plug just doesn't work. They are also quite a bit heavier and can get in the way compared to the bullet cables which also have a smaller diameter coil (less likely to roll your ankle in the dark or something if your playing out).

heard a lot of good things about http://thedivinenoise.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
pricey as well, that's what holding me off. but i tried one out the other day when i picked up my marauder, it's got a built in "off" switch so when you unplug it, it turns off and doesn't have sound. pretty nifty feature if you're switching guitars during a gig
