i'm glad to have brought designacable to people's attention. there are a couple of places doing the same thing but that's the place i tend to use. UK OSGers especially - never let your friends buy overpriced fender leads again!

Yeah nice one, I've bought a couple too! Got myself one with 90s on both ends (I've never seen these on a curly before and that's what I need!) and got my bass player a brown curly one cause he's obsessed with brown.MechaBulletBill wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 3:59 ami'm glad to have brought designacable to people's attention. there are a couple of places doing the same thing but that's the place i tend to use. Re: Which coily cable?
Interesting, they are 'coiling' that Van-Damme XKE cable (which is excellent stuff BTW) themselves.
The 90 pF/m measurement is from Van-Damme for their raw (uncoiled) cable. That value will be different (higher) on a finished 'coiled' cable.

I like coily cords much better than traditional cables, yet I have none.

Yeah, that's interesting for sure. I wonder if they're just wrapping and heatgunning it. I tested that method on one of mine the other day and it worked great...but the coils have quickly got very slack and it doesn't spring back all that well.
Mechabulletbill, what's the coil retention like on these?

Yep I'd be interested to hear how these hold up - XKE is very flexible/supple in the hand (feels super nice...man this is a weird thing to be saying about cable ) when compared with stuff like Mogami 2524 or Canare GS-6.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 6:44 pmYeah, that's interesting for sure. Re: Which coily cable?
I’ve bought from Designacable several times, though no coiled ones, and will also vouch for the quality of their components and assembly.MechaBulletBill wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 3:59 ami'm glad to have brought designacable to people's attention. there are a couple of places doing the same thing but that's the place i tend to use. Aside from the fact that coiled cables look cool, and most of my old guitar ‘heroes’ used them, I don’t quite get their appeal.
In terms of practicality, i realise the advantage of them being less easily pulled out of a socket if trodden on or tripped over, and maybe a bit easier to pack up. From a sound perspective, i would have thought a little bit of EQ would achieve the same effect, yeah?
I’m not on any high-horse about this, so please let me know what i’m missing out on - maybe i’ll even be lured into buying one!

^It's always the perfect length when you're a bedroom musician. No cables on the floor if you have a rolling chair.

Re: Which coily cable?
I know exactly what you mean, the VD stuff has a particular tactility about it that does indeed feel good to handle. The Mogami I found the easiest to 'train' into proper loops for cable tidying but is a little more rigid.
Tribi9 is right, for home use they are great. Most of us, when playing at home, are just a few feet away from the amp/pedalboard and it stops them getting tangled, rolled over, knotted etc. I'd never use one live though, but for home they are super convenient.JVG wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 7:44 pmIn terms of practicality, i realise the advantage of them being less easily pulled out of a socket if trodden on or tripped over, and maybe a bit easier to pack up. As for the EQ thing, you can turn up the treble, sure, but the highs have already been attenuated so simply aren't there in the signal to be boosted. My old VibroChamp is quite a dark amp already and I have to have the Treble on about 8, bass on 3 even with normal cables...the Vox coilys kill off all the sparkle. It's super noticeable.

Fair points there!
As for rolling over cables while playing at home - i’ve done that more than a few times!

Re: Which coily cable?
I have a pair of the Kirlin cables, and a pair of Bullets, on order at the moment. I will test them both against the Vox's and measure capacitance on them all, and report back.
I haven't heard back from Divine Noise yet about UK shipping, although I fear it'll be abhorrently expensive so I'll likely have to dodge those.

do you mean "do the coils do that thing cheaper leads do where the coil gets twisted and you get a horrible straight bit"? coz that hasn't happened for me with this one.
