Looks great! It took me three tries before I had a finish that I could live with.

Thanks, but I think the flash has hidden a lot of sins. Excited to see how the next stages go though

Re: Forgot how much I love Teles, AKA Tele Appreciation Thread
Hi there
I haven't had a tele since I got rid of my ASAT Special maybe 4-5 years ago.
I picked up this AVRI '72 Re-issue Tele Custom and I love it. The neck feels great, even with the stock pickups it really sounds good. I await the day when I can play it until play it in a band again (hopefully soon).

Gorgeous thinline, Maggieo! Does it sound better/louder unplugged than a solid tele?

Wow, the CC pickup on that Thinline is just gorgeous.
I posted my NGD separately, but it seems appropriate to post in this thread. For the first time in my life, I've joined the Tele club, and it's been a fun couple of days.

Thanks! It really depends on the individual Tele. I've got a solid pine one that's crazy loud. There definitely is some air moving going on, because I can feel the breeze coming out of the f-hole.

Now, I've never found a tele I can bond with, and subsequently don't actually own one.
What would be my options for one that could meet these criteria?... Solidbody, Rosewood board, nitro finish, USA-made, in an interesting colour, less than £1000 used?

Re: Forgot how much I love Teles, AKA Tele Appreciation Thread
A good partscaster. Teles are among the most frequently-built parts guitars, and parts guitars generally have terrible resale value. I see them come and go locally all the time. There's even one local to me that's actually a Fender Custom Shop partscaster (a CS '51 body with all other parts from a CS '59 model, with the case and COA from the '59) that's listed for AVRI money.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 7:51 amNow, I've never found a tele I can bond with, and subsequently don't actually own one.

Whatever the quality of the parts, an assembled partscaster generally sells for one or two rungs down the price ladder than a stock Fender. So I imagine you could find something like an MJT body with an AVRI neck and hardware used for that kind of money with a bit of patience.

And Leo Fender would have wanted you to buy a partscaster.
Or a G&L.

Good one! Don't know the UK market, but over here, used G&Ls are absolutely criminally underpriced. USA-made and better quality than Fenders in my experience, with their most popular models being Tele-shaped. Can't believe I didn't think of that.countertext wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 10:31 amAnd Leo Fender would have wanted you to buy a partscaster.

I regularly see USA G&Ls listed for under $1K CAD, which is £575, so even with the typical UK taxes and markup, I'd expect that to be doable under £1k.

USA G&L's seem to go for about £800-1100 depending on condition.mbene085 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 11:44 amGood one! I know it's likely stupid and rather shallow but I definitely have it in my head that, if I'm going to actually try and find a Telecaster I like and want to keep... I want an actual *Fender* Telecaster. The real deal, y'know?
If only I liked maple necks I'd have about a million choices

Well, if it helps, Leo owned and designed G&Ls about a quarter century more recently than he did Fenders, including the ASATs. They're also still made on the same production line in the same factory he set up. They're really more Fender than any modern USA Fender, they just have his first name on the headstock instead of his lastjohnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 12:15 pmUSA G&L's seem to go for about £800-1100 depending on condition.
