From the photo below (of the 59 Custom), it appears that you need to remove the neck p/up to adjust the neck?

I like the idea of the Hallmark 59. But also think the pickup-cover should be a little rounder. Otherwise I would love to check them out. Very close to the guitar on the back of The Ventures albums.

Yep. The neck pick-up must be moved out of the way for truss rod adjustments. I've had my 60 Custom for over a year and have never needed adjusting, but I use 10-46 strings, same as what was on the guitar when I got it. The guys at Hallmark set up the guitar before sending it out. Mine was perfectly set-up when it arrived. All I did was change from the GHS strings to my preferred D'Addarios.
The entire vibrato assembly on the '59 is made the same as the earliest Mark 1s (pre-Ventures involvement with Semie Moseley); it is cast aluminum that is hand polished.

I am seriously tempted by one of these but the designer in me can't stand the extra black pickguard around the vibrato, now if it had a function I might feel different...does it?

The extra bit of pickguard is what is called the "mistake plate", and it can be removed if you don't like it. It is there because it was on the early Mark 1s, and this particular Hallmark model is intended as a modern twist on the pre-ventures "The Ventures" model.

You've sold me on a 60 Custom... I'm going to contact Shade to see if it is possible to get one in black and if it can be set up by them with 11-50 strings.

I don't know anything about them ,but I see it has a laminated (plywood) neck.
Was it Framus that had that type of necks also on some models back in the 60's?

Someone on the board have definetly had a 60's offset with a laminated neck up for sale at one point. You should ask how those necks are.

The rest looks like pretty accurate (lawsuit:ish) copies of the real thing - incl the trem.

yeah, justin used have a framus with a laminated neck like that, and apparently it was very stable.

i don't quite have the funds for this guitar right now, but i'm sooooo tempted.

If the vibrato is at all a close copy of the Mosrite, stick to 10s...

I don't recognize it off hand, but I know a guy I'll ask. Look at the apparent quality of the wood in the neck, and the neck heel and volute design, the condition of the finish and the pickguard. They all point to quality. Probably out of one of the good big factories at the time.

Zenon are rebranded Beltone guitars made in Japan in the 1960s. [Source: Blue Book entry for Beltone]

Later in the 60’s decade Zenon guitars were marketed under the Morales brand name.
