New Strats Day…
I did a Kinx
After definitely saying I wasn’t going to start the year doing anything silly, well, I did something a little rash…. How do you know which 70s Strat will be good? Buy them both and try them! One will get keeped, the other sold.
‘77 stripped with new pots & dimarzio sds1, non-original case
‘73 all original, no case

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Very, very nice...a friend of mine has a '73 or '74 Strat that looks just like the Sunburst one, it is a great guitar!

Re: New Strats Day…
The fun one arrived! I love it. Think I can feel Pat’s joy of getting your hands on an old beater. Although it smells like an old beater…
4kg, so not horrific. My 78 mustang was heavier. I really like the neck profile, it’s full but slim at the nut. Definitely not a 70s baseball bat. And with the P90-esque bridge pickup It’s instantly more me. Haven’t tried it with drive yet, so we’ll see. I’ve got a cool rails lying about I can fit if needed.
demo of neck pickup (played poorly) Matt Knopfler

Re: New Strats Day…
Soo, a little later than expected… 1973 Strat. Sent a lovely old flight case that seems shaped for LP/SG.
The finish has a few more issues than originally thought, including a nice burn above the pickguard. But generally in excellent condition & doesn’t smell like an old practice room
The guitar isn’t overly heavy, neck is slim at the nut & check out the grain pattern. Poly seems nice and thin. All in all, really nice guitar, and I’ve not seen many pre-75 CBS lefties so that’s a nice bonus. Looking forward to plugging it in shortly.

Beautiful, warts and all.
I think 73 was the last year of staggered pole pieces on Strat pickups, so it’s notable in that regard too.
Hope it sounds good!

Left handed strats always look super offset and melty to me. Even the back of them.
a total idiot jackass
