NGD : 1965 Rickenbacker 365

Post by Pacafeliz » Wed Nov 15, 2023 9:05 am

...been going thru some personal/"family issues"...

So whatever, I thought, I'm gonna do something good for me, then, I thought.

And even though I'm trying to massively downsize, i got myself a deal on two guitars that had been haunting my dreams for quite a while now.

This is the first one.

I would have preferred classic fireglo/sunburst but hey...

Always wanted a real 360, but then again i love using the vibrato too, especially for feedbacks and such.
I traded one of my Rickenbacker 480s + some € for it and MAN I'm stoked. I think I did good.
I'd never played a "real" vintage Rick.
I love the narrow feel and how ALIVE it sounds, even acoustically. The kinda round shape is still kinda weird.
These bridges are bizarre.

I believe it's been refret already cuz of the wearmarks it has. This thing was PLAYED.
Looking forward to the weekend, setting it up and breaking it in.

Now in a couple days the other one should arrive. That one is kinda more standard to me.

HOLY OH MY GOD THAT’S BEAUTIFUL :-* :-* :-*

You deserve this guitar. Can we get some sound clips?

And the other one! The other one! :w00t:
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Gorgeous! May I recommend a Mastery for it. I put one on my 330 and it was a game changer. No rattles, more resonance.

I am so, so sorry. Hope the retail therapy help keep you sane, and that the pain subsides soon.

Also, lovely instrument!
Thanks man :-*

Thnks man, yeah I'll try to demo it somehow.
The other one should be here in a day or two. It'll be a NGD in the offset section, though

Thanks! I was just looking at the Mastery option. Expensive and I'd have to order it from the US (= + taxes etc.) but I've always been curious about trying out a mastery. We'll see, depending on how my sales go.
The vibrato turns out to be almost as high as the bridge itself, that might be a bit problematic- the string pull doesn't feel as strong. But i also need to put fatter strings on, I believe it's 9ers now :fp:

First off I’m really sorry to hear about your family struggles. That really sucks and I hope you and the wife are doing okay through it all.

As for the ric, holy crap that’s an incredible looking guitar. That’s some holy grail type stuff right there. Enjoy it!

es tut mir echt leid, Pat

That guitar is amazing! and the mastery will be great on it. Minor heads up: I’m not sure about yours but for my 1982 330 the bridge screw plate holes were, uh, not really drilled well or evenly, so that when I got a Mastery it was off to one side when using the existing screw holes in the body. I’d guess yours may be similar. (Unlike the standard location and spacing for modern knee). Easy to fix but a bit baffling at first. (I didn’t trust myself so had my tech do it along with some other work). It did make a noticeable improvement, but I’d honestly be fine either way.

Congratulations.

Glorious guitar, sorry about the circumstances. A subject close to my heart, so you have my sincere sympathy.

As for the Mastery, I've had them on Rics and actually ended up going back to stock. They're good, but you may lose some intrinsic Rickenbacker-ness.....and the stock bridge works absolutely fine / will provide better intonation.

I must confess I'm not loving it. Prob is, it is simply too high, too. There's barely any break angle from the bridge at all, and even the mastery (which made the guitar sound about 3x louder acoustically and feel more solid, somehow, right away - yes I love it and don't regret spending those €200) can hardly do something about it.
...so there's this shop on Reverb that makes a new "spring" just for that. Gonna pull the trigger on that and see what it does. I've already got a TOM for Ricky from them (on my black 480) and I'm happy with the upgrade. It's all non invasive and hey if it makes it play better...

Thnx yep, the holes were about 1mm off on one side, but fuck it, I just put those screws in and enjoyed the Mastery tone/feel upgrade
