Possible new DG ES 335 signature guitar
DG ES 335
So excited about this!
Been wanting a Trini Lopez ES for ages but the price is not making it easy for me .
Just came across a post in Epiphone subreddit and thought maybe post here also.
Thoughts?
Now I hope the nut width will be in the wider side of the spectrum just like the Gibson reissue.
Lately I have been GASing for an Epi Firebird and a Gibson reverse Firebird so bad.

Makes sense, and looks fun. I wonder how much...? (the recent Bonamassa and Gallagher Epi semis have been pretty pricey here).muffonrat wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 7:10 amDG ES 335

And Shiflett's got a Jazzmaster in that picture too.
All the cheeses....

Yeah, I have to say that an Epiphone Trini Lopez would be incredibly hard for me to resist, as long as they don't bungle the headstock the way they did on the new Epiphone Firebirds. It's too big, it's shaped wrong, and it's awkward and ugly enough to be the sole reason I don't want one.
Gibson headstock:
Epiphone headstock:
Notice how the Epiphone headstock is blown out to be cartoonishly big, with the high E tuner being so low on the headstock that it lands inside the "point", and also is so far off to the treble side that it actually pulls the high E string's path further out than the edge of the neck. Then, the rest of the tuners are spaced so far apart that the entire headstock is stretched out - the bass side "point" of the truss rod cover lands well below the matching point on the headstock instead of being lined up like the Gibson, and the strings splay out from each other in a fan as they leave the nut. It's also too fat toward the end, so you lose the slim, tapering feel of the original and it just looks a bit like a paddle, or a Firebird headstock suffering from some terrible bloating.
Now, the Gibson headstock is not perfect, it was a shitty follow up to the true king of Firebird headstocks:
Straight string pull, beautifully contrasting carved edges...that is probably the most perfect headstock to ever come out of the "OG design" era of the 50s and 60s.
But my point is that the Epiphone Firebird got nearly everything right except for the weird "Alibaba Firebird" headstock, so I'd hate to see a beautiful Trini Lopez plagued with the same issue.
If they put a nice headstock on it and I find one that plays well, I'll definitely try some out and buy one if it feels as good as it looks.

Great points there Embenny, have not really noticed any of these to be honest but to my defence I do not own any Epi or Gibson Firebird either so..
What I find aesthetically really disturbing though is a SG or LP neck with blocks and no binding, don't know it looks so wrong imho.

ugh - this may be an insta-buy depending on neck profile... Big fan of the Trini model.
I also noticed that Shifflet had a jazzmaster.

I kinda dig the Dave Grohl signatures, but what I'd most like to see is either a proper Trini Lopez Custom reissue (or a Barney Kessel, I'm not picky), or something like the ultra rare florentine cutaway 335 they have.

I don't think they are into re-polishing turds.

Hmm not quite my thing and too obviously fanboyish. But hey...
...i DO regret immensely that i didn't hit the BIN on one of them Gallagher Rivieras when they came out last year. They seem to have surpassed everyone's expectations and weren't so obviously "signature"

i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

A proper Trini Lopez signature would be the best option for me also, but I could totally replace the stop tailpiece with a floating one and call it a day .
I kind of prefer the mini humbuckers so a pick up swap is also very possible.

So, there seems to be a live show where the DG ES signature was used.
Grabed this image from a video on you tube.
To me headstock shape looks pretty accurate and the diamond holes on the body the correct size.
Unfortunatelly I cannot make the image appear

Very interesting. I've always loved the Trini Lopez appointments. Depending on the colors, and price, I could be very into one of these.
