...mind to show off your Gibson guitars?

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

Anyone got a take on a guitar from Gibson demo shop vs a new model?

The demo model has a few marks but they look minimal in the photos. It’s £100 less than a new model via an online retailer, who I imagine ship the guitar box unopened.

Would the demo guitar have gotten a decent setup at the start of its life, or by Gibson when they list them on the reverb shop?
I got a demo shop non-reverse firebird that they had modded with a coil tap in the bridge - this was pretty early when stuff was still largely reasonable. They had it listed as "fair" condition - but in all honesty - it was in better condition than a lot of guitars at Guitarget and the set up was just about perfect.

They - at least in the US shop - overstate any flaw just to avoid returns and complaints I think.

Yeah I think the flaws may be overstated a bit as a way to make Gibson QC look really strict and kinda rebuild their reputation.

Carrying on ...

Image

'21 R8. 8lbs 3oz. I fell in love with the bass side of the top and had to have it. I've never owned a humbucker'd Standard, either. It'll probably get a natural refinish some day.

'21 Special. 7lbs 4oz. Locking Tone Pros tailpiece. I tried a MojoAxe compensated model but it didn't really do it for me. It's a great guitar but not much to look at so ...

'76 Custom. 10lbs 4oz. Faber ABR with conversion posts as the Nashville collapsed. I've had this since '85 and it has had all manner of pickups and electronics in and out. It's got proper replacement T-Tops in it now although I've got the stock pups still too.

I'm probably done with an exception of an R4. I've got to do something with that compensated tailpiece I've got laying around. 8)

I once again own, for now at least, a Gibson that isn't V-shaped.

Image

I had a solid two days of being over the moon with it before someone traded me a Harmony Comet that plays and fits me even better. Sigh.

I'll probably be back to only owning Vs before too long. Every other Gibson that has passed through here these last few years has made its way back out the door. LPs, SGs, 335s and Firebirds...All of them had multiple redeeming qualities, but also at least one personal deal-breaker, whether it was weight, ergonomics, tone, playability, or price:performance ratio.

My Vs remain the only ones that have succeeded in ticking all the boxes for me, though I do miss several of the others when I reminisce about them (without having to contend with the issue that convinced me to sell or trade them).

I don't generally care for the small blocks, but that's a great-looking 335. Someone will be happy.

Here's my SG Classic. Also have a '72 SG Std w Bigsby - half wing guard, not the top routed BS.

Anyone else like ES's and SG's but not at all like Les Pauls?

This Gibson Custom '61 re-issue was a secret favorite of mine. At the time I got it, it was the most expensive guitar I ever bought, but its bright articulate sound was just perfect straight into the JC-120. I think it has burst buckers, the good ones, and also it's a korina body and neck.

My friend John's son, playing my '61 SG Special:

He totally rocked it. Deep Purple, King Crimson, Fugazi.

😂😂

Innit!

I’m sure he’s less of a twat than RB (although admittedly Brand does come out with the occasional witty remark).

This is kind of a failure. I bought it with moving the pickup to the neck position in mind but it's so awesome as is I'm not sure I'll be able to.
