Belated NGD - Tele Deluxe Aqua Flake Sparkle!

Belated NGD! 2012 Fender Telecaster Deluxe MIM 72 Classic Series in Aqua Flake

This is a few months overdue. But I thought sparkle content is always nice to see! This is installment two of my WRHB - Filtertron - Firebird trifecta.

I got this guitar mainly because I wanted to try out WRHBs and eventually found a good deal on Fender CuNiFe reissue WRHBs. As I've said elsewhere, I like them for their clarity compared to PAFs, and they are very neutral sounding, which for me is great as a blank palette to layer on effects, while for others feel they may have less character and feel boring. I have no idea if CuNiFe is really worth it versus other WRHBs, and based on YT videos, I'm still super interested in Lollar Regals as a high end option, and Gemini pickups seem like a great, well-priced option.

I also wanted to try out a G&L/Reverend style bass contour, and you can see that thread here. It’s a volume-volume-tone-basscut set up that helps the pickups approach single coil territory a little more and can help reduce muddiness if doing things like stacking fuzzes or working with bassier sounding amps.

It comes stock with a parchment pickguard, but
I think I like the black pickguard for a meaner look. Black tends to bring out more of the greens, and parchment seems to bring out more of the blues.

At the moment it’s the only guitar I have with a maple fretboard, but I do wonder if a rosewood board would be a great look!

Oh man, that looks so good! I agree that the black guard looks great on that colour. The parchment kinda washes out the maple neck but the black really makes it pop.

Thanks! This is my first sparkle guitar and I think I opened up a can of worms... Having collected my favorite Fender blue colors, I now find myself lusting after various greens as well as GAS'ing for more sparkle. Fender's mystic surf and mystic seafoam both look amazing in person and I may not be able to resist! Among the holy grails of sparkle finishes for me - coke bottle sparkle and surfburst sparkle :?

I like Bilt's version of surfburst a lot.

Really like the look of your new guitar. The parchment pick guard does look nice, but I agree the black is better. It works with the sparkle to create a night sky and ocean effect. The maple fretboard with black dots is fine as is. I wouldn't trade it for rosewood personally. I do wonder what it would look like with black tuners though...

Thrilled I caught this bump. That thing is sick.
I currently don’t see any others out there on that orange R site.

It came in gold, tangerine, and aqua. I think an aqua one would pop up on reverb every 2-3 months. The fret ends were a little sharp (which I find often with MIM) but after a good setup it’s pretty nice.

I’m just gonna keep telling myself I don’t need a 4th tele.
5th if you count the offset tele that’s due in tomorrow.
